1998 Accord Check Engine Light

A while back my check engine light came on and I was able to get the code by using the key with on - off - on - off - on. I got the CEL again and now I can't get the key method to work.

Is this the correct combination to use?

I did not know Honda did that in their cars. I know that was the old dodge/chrysler/etc... way to do it.

Being a 98 it has a OBD2 system so you can get a code reader/scanner or have advance/autozone pull the code for free.

Anybody else see a honda with the on off key trick?

We have a 98 Honda Accord. I tried the on/off trick but couldn't make it work. I just ran it by AutoZone and they read the code for me. Also, they gave me some indication as to what the problem was.
In our case, the distributor had gone bad. $175.00 OUCH!!!!
Hope this helps!

I'll check and see if there's an autozone near me.

I'm taking it in for an oil change tomorrow so they can check it while I'm there I just wanted to know before they check the code so I would know if they are BS'ing me with the diagnosis.

I've also read something about jumping two pins of the OBD plug-in port. I may try that just to see if it works.

DON'T!!! That was the old GM trick during OBD1 days. The on off key trick, as far as I know, was only dodge/chrysler.

Your car is a OBD2. A simple code puller/scanner will work.
