1997 Eclipse GTS for $4000 worth it?

Thinking of getting a Mitsubishi Eclipse for $4000.
Has 137000 Miles on it though, looks taken care of. Is this worth it or are there potential problems because of the high mileage and this is the turbo model.

Anyone ever own one of these here?

Thanks

137000 miles :Q and you are thining about buying it for how much..........$4000

Have you checked KBB to see the value of it?

for $4000 thats a good deal. If the car lasted that long, you have nothing toworry about. Some of these cars are plagued by crankwalk, but those specimens don't make it past 100k miles.

Ask him what kind of oil he's been putting in it.

<- had 3 DSMS

Make sure the turbo has already been replaced/serviced. Otherwise I wouldn't do it.

Not necessarily required. A friend bought a Volvo with neary 200k on it and the original turbo was in good shape. Turbos love maintainence. As long as it was well kept I see no problem with it having the original turbo.

why is that exactly?

At that mileage, if it hasn't been properly cared for (as someone specified) it might need replacing in the near future, and that wouldn't be cheap.

KBB says $4578 so it seemes like a good deal, I was going to take it to a mitsubishi Dealership to have it inspected first......

He also said someone offered him 5000 2 weeks ago, but said they would contact him when they got the money, he was going to take the offer but the guy never called back, so it stands at who-ever gives him $4000 first gets it.

That's a tough call since I do not know your financial situation. Personally, for 4k, that sounds like a fun toy to buy and play with, but not as my only car.

Meh, a turbo is a few hundred bucks. Its a used car, what more do you want?

I am trying to save my other car, it seems to be a super car door dent magnet 🙁. This would be my daily driver.

Thanks for the advice

Like others said, itd be hit or miss. You dont see many 2nd gen eclipses around anymore for a reason...a friend of mine has one at similar mileage and its always breaking down, and its not even the turbo one. Buy it as a fun car to drive a while before it explodes, but not as your only car.
