1997 Acura Integra

Tab

Just bought a 1997 Acura Integra with 125k that's not modded and will stay that way. 🙂

The rear lower fender? If that's the word for it has a small break in it. They guy whom I bought it from hit a snow back and it's kinda cracked. Does anyone know if some kind of glue would hold it? Also, the glue would have to hold up in the winter ( -30 f). I have a spare bumper that isn't broken but it'd have to be repainted; does anyone know how much that'd cost off-hand?

Also, does anyone know where I can find a receiver with an aux input that doesn't look like complete crap?

I think some epoxy should do for the crack in the bumper if it's not too big. You should be able to get that at most home stores.

What kind of integra is it? LS, GS, GSR, or...Probably not very likely, but ITR?

Just a boring 4 door ls with 125k... Paid $3,500 for it.

Before I went to go buy this car I went to a local Honda dealership. They had a '92 Maxima trade-in with 126k. I offered them $2,700 and they wanted $3,700. I told them that I wasn't paying that much for a car that old. They then pulled up a brown Nissan Sentra with 126k and wanted $3,000. They wouldn't budge and I left.

If people are buying '92 Nissans for $3,700 maybe I should get into the used car business? 😀

yeah, I traded my 01 Altima (120K miles) for around 2300...it needed so much repair and failed inspection (4 differen codes). I looked on Craigslist a week later and I saw my car on sale for 5700. I almost slapped my self silly. My butt really hurt that day.

booooooo

lol, here in the Bronx, NY you wouldn't have to worry about modding it...someone would steal it in a week and mod it for you. 😀

Nice car and yes be careful of theft. These are some of the most commonly stolen cars in the US.

Why would anyone steal such old cars? Wouldn't it be more profitable stealing the new ones?

I had a 1995 GSR and I wish I were popular with women as that car was with thieves. I started thinking about driving a Volvo after the acura was stolen from the body shop parking lot and striped.

I really enjoyed my '96 GSR. It wasn't stolen, but I still somehow ended up with a Volvo wagon. 😕

its easy to steal Honda's/Toyota's because of how they're so widely available, you dont sell them as a whole, you part them out and sell them on ebay, nobody will know the difference. not a bad buy.

because they all use the same parts. some newer models still use parts from older models. Japanese companies usually use teh same parts across the board (ie they all use the same horn) because its cheaper to buy it that way.

I am trying to figure out how to theft proof the car, I heard there was some kind of easy thing you could do wear you could shove a screwdriver near the hood?

I know what you are asking, but keep in mind there is no such thing as a theft-proof car. There are just varying levels of theft resistance.

There are thousands of ways to increase the difficulty of stealing your car. There are obviously the huge array of store bought alarm systems, which vary widely in price and effectiveness. Another way is home brew stuff, like hidden kill switches, an electrical lockout key (made from db-15 connectors), or a removable steering wheel.

Even though Integras are old, they are stolen so much because:
a) They have little to no theft protection. The electrical ignition switch is held to the tumbler with 3 phillips head screws. The tumbler is made of fairly weak metal and can be broken with a 2 lb. sledge.

b) The ease of parting the car out and distributing the parts. As mentioned, the B series engines are so similar that you can swap heads, transmissions. Keep in mind, we are talking a span of 11 years here, where they basically used the same powertrain, save for some different mounts and OBD versions. Body panels from the 97-01 models are sought after from some owners of 94-96 models, which also interchange. Even chassis parts can be parted out, because the Integra is on a Civic platform, and many Civic owners like having bigger front brakes.

It really is a shame, because they are truly great cars. I have owned a '94 GS-R, a '91 GS and an '87 GS. I actually liked the way the '91 drove the best, but obviously preferred the acceleration of the GS-R. I think the possibility of theft has a lot to do with where you live as well. My friend had his '92 GS-R broken into, but they just stole his speakers/amp and left the car. This was in Grandview Heights, a small part of Columbus.

I know you said 'no mods', but grab a K&N for that, change your fuel filters, and put in Platinum +4 plugs, decent wires, and use some Schaeffer or Amsoil + decent oil filter. Your fuel economy will go up a little, your motor will run smoother/quieter, and you will gain a tiny bit of power, but mostly, your motor will last longer. It's really interesting watching a car that has always run on conventional oil get cleaner and cleaner with each oil change. I did it with an old Buick, and after several all-synthetic Amsoil changes, the oil now comes out perfectly clean after 5k miles. I'm lucky I have a 3800 series II, they're pretty reliable for an American motor, hell pretty reliable under any circumstance. That Integra should last to 200-250k if you do regular maintenance, maybe more with premium oil. Look at it this way, a difference between a $20 oil change and a $40 oil change, every 5k miles, isn't much over the life of the car. It's worth it 😉

Ps : if you can't find Amsoil, you can settle for Mobil 1, Syntec, etc. It's not as good, but still way better than the conventional garbage.
