learn how to negotiate... i bet you i can get that car 7500 out the door

Some random guy comes in while we are talking about the car and hes like " Yo, how much for that van out there", "3000 cash", he says "Yo, how about you go half 1500 cash" The dealer was like "Ahh no, 3000 cash". I thought it was funny 🙂 He supposedly said that they bought the car in CT, and his brother drove it from CT to Vermont. He even said that his brother called him while on the road just to tell him how nice the car was. 🙂

Oh man I got a 96 Cad Deville in perfect condition 73 thousand miles for around that amount. Was thinking of getting a Maxima for the trunk. My car is a dream, a floating cloud, a freeway poem. Elvis is alive.

Of course, it's just a tool used by the dealership. People who are too timid to negotiate will just use the coupon, save $500 and think they got a great deal. Myself, I'd forget the coupon and start talking in the range of $2K under their asking price. My emotions for the vehicle would be left at home - the dealer would have no idea of my love for the car. I would demonstrate my flexibility. I would be able to walk away from the deal, if I had to. More than likely, the dealer would make a call to my house within 24 hours to close the deal.

Use car sales are in the crapper at the moment. There are way too many deals on new vehicles such as incentives for great or free financing - in addition to rebates. You should really focus on buying this car for $7,500 and selling your car via private party - or, even at Ebay's auction site.

Alright i checked out the car this afternoon... its is VERY nice.

I asked him what it was going for and he said about 9500! He asked how much i was asking to get out of my trade and I said about a grand. He claims that the KBB for the car is 11,000 which is way off according to both cars.com and edmunds. He offered the car to me for 8700 with trade and a year warranty 🙁. I am going to have my dad call on monday and talk it over... if we could get the car into the 7500-8000 range, i would be all over it.

-Bubbadu

i raise a bullsh!t flag on that price.

Yeah me too. According to cars.com, the car in good shape is 7700. I have no idea where this 11,000 dollar price came from. He gave me a sheet with the VIN and it says KBB, 11,000, our price - 9,995. I bet i can get him to like 7500... he thinks he can get more because its a somewhat rare car around here. My dad ( the GRAND NARGUS himself) will pull at AT HD worthy deal though. 🙂

The 4th generation is definitely not a rare car on the east coast. As a matter of fact, there are more of them on the east coast rather than on the west coast. So i raise another BS flag on that comment too.

You should seriously consider another dealer. This one is just making my eye twitch in regard to the BS.
Or just negotiate like hell - meaning get the car for 7-7.5k max.

Actually, I did a quick shot to my local papers and $7.5k almost seems too much in my area for that much mileage! It should be a newer 97-98 with less mileage going for that price :Q
Dunno if the same applies in Vermont but I'm guessing it should... I recall there was a gult of those cars in 97-99 since Nissan was floundering and my friends got good deals on them new. Worse comes to worse, you can always find another Maxima, also it's value should drop because of the 2004. 9500?!?! That markup is insane. 😕

And selling your old car will get you more value for sure... what was I thinking. 😱

i traded in my 2000 firedbird for a maxima.
the only regret i have is not selling my car instead of trading it in....prolly lost 3000$ or more cuzz of trade in.

you are right. 7.5k is also on the higher side... thats why i was thinking $7.5k should be your max to max bid on it if you are in love with that car.

The car is now up on there website.... i am probably going to go and test drive it tomorrow. The dealer retail is 9995 on my sheet and now its 9695 on the website. He quoted me 9000 without a trade which still seems really high. As far as rarity, I have looked all over the state and have yet to find a ton of these cars for sale. There are still a couple of other dealerships out there which i might hit tomorrow 🙂 (spring break)
