So... At the 160k mark, the kiss of death was planted. The car was religiously maintained from the previous owners and then I, synth oil, replacement parts, ect. But now I've a problem. the check engine light came on, and I took it to the local dealer (obdII diagnostic) Knock sensor and the evap system are malfunctioning. Oh boy. also, the radio happened to die. Headunit, actually. Does anyone have any Idea if the engine light codes are critical, and the cost involved?

I think those are common weak points for Maximas. Did you check out Maxima.org for solutions?

Hi there, I have a '97 I30.
A lot of people, myself included, have had the knock and oxygen sensors replaced. Considering it's 11 years old - maybe it is time. You can definitely find out more on a maxima forum. I don't know much about the evap system at all. The knock sensor shouldn't be too bad to replace.
I recently found this site/forum that may be able to help you.

If all your electrics are acting up I'd take a close look at your alternator.

It can pass an autozone test and still be bad. check the voltage with a multimeter, if it's jumping all over the place replace it, dirty power can cause all sorts of trouble for your electrics.
