Local paper has a 1995 Jaguar XJR. I havent called the guy so mileage is unknown, probably high since he is asking $9500.

Would this turn out to be a huge headache with maintenace and repairs? I know most of the 70s and 80s Jaguars have many issues, I just dont know if the 90's models were any better.

I personally think the XJR is a sexy ass car, that beautiful body wrapped around those steamroller tires just exudes sex to me. It would not be a daily driver, just a 3rd car around here to take on trips, most of our car trips are 3 hours or less, and as a back-up vehicle in case on of our older cars goes belly-up for a week or so.

XJR link for those who arent familiar.

I really, really want it.

They're an awesome car, and a complete pain in the ass to maintain, nothing is standard about them, I've heard that it's like attempting to keep your own fighter jet running & I have yet to meet a Jag owner that's not on a first name basis with his mechanic.

I'd expect so, but it is a beast. There is one for sale near me that is up for £3995 or roughly the same price as yours... red too. SUPERCHARGED!

$10K for a 1995 Jaguar? You know, for a couple grand more, you could find a late 90's, or early 2000 XJR.

An uncle of mine picked up a 1983 Jag for $3500. Took a valve job to get it to smog. Two years later, he sold it for $2500. Needed another valve job by then. Looked great, but wasn't worth the maintenance.

The general rule of thumb regarding maintenance: A car will cost roughly 10% of it's original purchase price to maintain and operate each year.

Please, for your own sake, don't let a 12 year old Jag be your "new" car!
