I have a 91 celica bought used and its been driving fine(131k) but recently noticed a
red light(not blinking) pop up about 5 inches from the shifter. Its an auto if that makes a difference. Anyone have an idea what that is?..I don't have the owners' manual.

Its like a small tiny led red light. Just noticed it after driving for 2 weeks.
 
Most likely it's a light that indicates if you are in overdrive mode or not.
 
its a GT and i see that it had a button u can press on shoulder of the auto shifter...but whether i pressed it in or not, the light still stayed on. Shouldn't it go off if i un-press it?

..or maybe its stuck?...old car.
