1989 Nissan 240SX - anything bad I should know about?

Are all 240SX's real wheel drive?

The 1990 model and up design doesn't look quite as nice, imo. I like the popup headlights and the fact that its a RWD (hopefully). What's the specs on HP and torque? Think it'll be a nice downgrade from a FWD 5th gen Prelude.

Anything I should take note of like any recalls or poor engine/transmission builds?

I thought the 1989 240SX looked identical to the 1990 240SX? They're still the same model car. It didn't change until 1995.

Yes they are all RWD.

And the 1989 models are the same up to 1995 except there are two types, the coupe and the fastback. Maybe you have them mixed up. They have ~150hp.

EDIT: You'd have to be dumb to buy a 240sx that old right now and not consider putting an SR20DET in it. How long do you think a 16 year old car will last?

It does. There were a few changes though (mostly small)

Edit: I think pray4mojo hit the nail on the head. There were two versions

People are still driving around muscle cars from the 1960's. If you maintain them, you can keep them running as long as you like.

I'm not a car enthusiast and this is a vehicle that I think would be an option based on what I see as a beater daily driver. Probably very beat up by other drivers by the time it's passed along to me eh.

My finances do not allow me to keep the Prelude, based on my upcoming goals. I'm also considering a 3rd gen Prelude for around the same price. My budget is about $4000CDN.

What trim levels so they come in?

I see ones with the integrated headlights (if you can call it that) and the older model comes with the pop up headlights. What model year was it when they switched?

Trim levels are XE and SE Fastback.
of course there are options.

I thought they all had pop up lights untill 95 which was a complete body style change.

Your an idot. There is no reason why it couldnt habdle the sr20det.

Installed an sr20det in a friends 84' 240sx. Car is stunning on the outside, runs like a raped ape, and is sponsored by racerx/MSD.

He said he should consider putting one in.

Pointless for a beater though. Nothing wrong with the KA24E

Oh well for a daily beater scratch the SR20DET. I'd just try to find a 240sx with a decent amount of miles on it. For $4000CDN (which is about $3100) I don't think you'd be able to find a 95+ 240sx that isn't FUBARed, at least not around where I live.

Huh....I'm not aware of any power bumps until 95.
Looks like I was wrong. Not much increase though.

I don't know exactly which year but there was an engine change in the S13 from the KA24e to the KA24de which added 10-15 horsepower.

This happened in 91'. The 89-90 models get the 140hp KA24e, 91' and up get the KA24de.

Americans couldn't be bothered to fit their fat asses in a tiny jap trap with only a 2.0L engine :p :p

I would still love to build one as a project car.
