It depends on two main things in my opinion. Your level of maturity, and what other female options you have. If you have none, then it's likely to fail. I'm friends with a lot of my ex's, and it's mutually beneficial for each of us in some form or fashion.

most definitely yes. in fact, sometimes you can be better friends with them after they are your ex.
