I have a friend who has a 84' Grand Marquis and he doesn't want to drive it in the winter time because he's scared he's going to "kill" it.

Is it that much harder on the engine, and compontents.

The only problems I can see it having are in extreme cold's. Other then that it shouldn't be to bad on the car should it? Except of course for all the salt on the roads and stuff.

I don't see the big deal... aside from rotting the body like you said.

that's the only reason I worry about my car (the body damage)

He might be afraid of the lack of traction those cars have in snow & ice. The cold weather shouldn?t affect the drivetrain or the suspension over any other car.

302 V8 I assume? Quite impossible to "kill it" if he just drives it normally and performs SOME degree of maintenance. My dad has an 88 Grand Marquis, that, despite my pleadings, very rarely sees an ounce of maintenance. He's had it now for 16 years, and it still runs great, even though the body is rusted out. Driven daily all that time. The car will be fine. Jeez, it's not like it's a Ferrari or something.

**EDIT: As mentioned, the snow and ice traction on that car leaves a lot to be desired, however. Wouldn't be my first choice for a winter car based on size and weight + RWD.

That's been the cause of death of every one of my cars over the last 30 years!

So that V8 engine is a good reliable engine? I don't know if it's a 302 or not, but i know it's a V8

The car is in great shape (the body), hardly any, rust. The leather on the seats are still really nice too.
