1983 Honda CX650 - good first bike?

Guy has a mint one for sale, just needs a tune up .. asking 1050, he lists it as a 1982, but AFAIK, 1983 is the first cx650 custom?

Are these pretty good beginner bikes? I love the look of them, would love to get it to start riding again. I used to ride as a kid, 250's and stuff around our cabin out in the boonies.

15k miles as well.

Looks good to me. Heck, my first bike is/was a '75 Yamaha Enduro 175cc. It was used so little that it had the factory tires on it, got it for the same price as what you're looking at.

From my viewpoint, the starter bike is just that - getting you going on the in's and out's. It should be cheap, not terribly fast, and simple. This bike fits the bill.

Trouble finding mid 80's honda parts?

I think i could build another 1969 Mini trail 50 from parts available NEW from vendors. At least on common bikes, honda is pretty good as far as the parts stream goes for the old stuff.

I have a 82 650 Seca, I've found parts on the internet 'wreckers' and from the Yamaha dealer which brought in what I needed in from a dealer in Vancouver.
Computers are a wonderful thing

Look at eBay and see if many parts are available. If they are you're good to go. Great thing about crotch rockets is they get totaled so often it's easy to find mint parts with little use on them for cheap. An older bike would be a good bike to start on. You could learn to wrench on it and not worry as much since the bikes only costing you a grand.

Enjoy and wear some quality riding gear. I just don't get the asshats riding with t-shirts and bandanas. I don't care how good you ride you can't predict what other drivers are going to do. Too many bad things can go wrong and I'd sure hate to be the asswipe getting skin grafts at the hospital cause it was a lot cooler wearing a t-shirt.

Yeah, that is the plan, probably spend as much on gear as I did the bike, haha.

The gear can be used on the next bike. Buy good stuff and it lasts forever. I change bikes out yearly and the gear goes to the next bike. I'm now to the point I'll only buy black or neutral color gear. I have a red icon leather jacket that went great with a red and white ninja I use to own but looks funny on my current black and green ninja.
