1977 Mercedes-Benz 280E w/ engine pictures now...

I have always liked this older style Mercedes and this car (according to the ower) is in great shape. It has 99,800 original miles...he said it does have a little rust around the wheel wells but that seems to be the only blemish. He is sending me a picture of the engine (which he claims is in top-notch shape and clean) either tomorrow or the next day and I am probably going to go check the car out early next week (it's 100 miles away or so)...
It has no A/C but I don't care about that...it doesn't have power windows or locks but then again I don't care about those options either...

It's a 4 speed manual transmission...what do you think a fair price would be?

That's odd, as far as I remember, A 77 280E came with a M110 engine...

Which is a inline 6 cylinder gasoline engine.😉

Actually you're right...I have been looking at so many lately I guess I got it confused with another one...

Yep we had a baby poop green 77 280e and it was a gasser auto. It is still parked over at my uncle up on blocks who my parents gave it too since by that time we had owned it for 10+ years and it had become quite the beater and worth zilch. Be glad it doesn't have a/c, power windows, or vacuum yes vacuum locks which were actually the only thing out of those three that worked without anyproblems. Anyway other then all the little crap that broke, expensive parts, and rust it was a pretty good car and drove really well.

Oh and the engine at trans never gave us any problems. I can't really say how many miles are on it, it shows around 160k but the odometer stuck for the first 2 years we had it and only registered 1 mile for every 5 or so and then broke completely 🙂.

Flaming pimp ride purple paint is expensive. Offer $995 and save the rest for the 20' spinners.

I happen to like everything stock.

He wants $2995 for it...I think I'll tell him $2000 even...

An elite member with < 1000 posts? What did you do?

look at his joined date. everyone i know of who joined in 1999 has elit status, regardless of their contributions. the REAL "elites" have other custom titles ala Jokersmoker, RossMAN, and the AT people.

I was gonna ask for closer pics but after I saw those two engine pics... All I can say is STAY AWAY. unless you want a major project.😉

From those pics it is obvious that that at one time great car has been neglected.🙁

If he's asking $3000 then I wouldn't go more than $1500 if you have to have it...closer to $1000 the better without totally insulting the guy. Check eBay for comparables...

The engine does look less than attractive...I like the color though...I may just keep looking or offer him a ridiculous amount and see if he bites...

Have you actually seen the car or driven it?

If not... unless you have the money and time to set aside for this car... I would suggest you spend less time worrying about the price and more time on what you might be bitten by in the end or near future. 😉

I plan to go see it early next week like I stated earlier...trust me, I have more than enough of both to set aside for this car otherwise I never would have thought about it...
