I have a 1970 coupe with a 250 Cubic inch inline six and a 3 speed automatic. Everything is mechanically good in the car and I want an ATOT opinion on what i should do first, paint it or start building a 302 V8?

Just let me know which or if you have any other ideas post them too...

Paint it, chicks dig the shiny car look, not the greasy motor in the garage look.

Ack, a 250, 3spd i6. Why only drop a 302 in there? Why not anything bigger? :D :( Get something monstrous, man. A 302 is by no means shietty (comapred to yours ;)), but still ... how about something 350+?

Chicks (sorry you-know-who :( ) dig the red mustang.

Paint it. Fire engine red with a nice ass clearcoat.

I would definately be throwing a V8 at it, the he** with the women. Heck, most of the ones I am around like the rumble of a small block enough to look past primer or faded paint. ;) Just my 2 cents. :)

Why didn't you say so? :D Sounds good, go for it. Don't throw it away. If you do, then get as much as you can for it. :p

355 is good.. 555 is better though. :D I read of a 70 trans am with a 555 that ran something like an 8s 1/4mile? Whatever it was I remember it was friggin insane, like more insane than anything I've ever seen. :D probably not street legal, and probably gets like 1mpg.. but I'd love to ride in that. :D

I'm not sure $1000 would get you a used 302 (I'm sure you mean $1000 towards it). I'd personally get a 351 - a little heavier iirc but the crate engines you can get direct from SVO have 500hp out of the box :D

Step into the new millenium, unless you have a lot of PSI of some type of boost and an extreme cam, EFI is the best street performance with reasonable economy

well... a crate motor is a different beast, i can get a used EFI 302 for $350 and go to work on it, i'm going for 300 horses and equal torque for under $2500

if i were you i'd leave it stock and turn it into a show car. Nothing better than an all-original car with a detailed engine compartment :) my friend has a 63 Laurentian(Canadian Catalina) with a straight 6 single barrel and a 2 speed power glide, which we are going to restore hopefully. Could put in a 454 no problem, but this is going to stay original :)

Sorry to burst your bubble but $1000 isn't going to get you very far into a paint job (a decent one at least) or a nice new motor for that matter....time to start mowing lawns!
