Hi!

Recently I got a free 1950xtx :) I am running it in the following system:

E6600 (non oc'ed)
X-fi
DDR2 800mhz
P5W DH
1280x1024 monitor (looking to upgrade towards the end of this year though)

I was wondering if I should sell this card and buy a 8800GTX, 8800GTS or even an R600.
The 8800GTS would cost around 70-80 dollars, the GTX around 150-160 dollars, and the R600 I am not sure what the RRP is? (Possibly just out of my price range)

If I sell the card however, I would do it very soon (so value doesn't decrease) and so waiting for an R600 could be a bit annoying.

I was a beta tester of Vista and so I wont upgrade for a while as I didnt really like it IMO (I wont be able to afford it either )

Any opinions? (Let me know if you need any more information)

Thanks,
Joe

If I were you, I would keep the XTX you have now. And wait to see what the R600 refreshes are like. Likely 2-4 months after release of R600 probably. Because im sure you can play games excellent with current card. Refreshes are usually cheaper than the first released product ( R600 ). Heck, you could OC that Core 2 you have, and even get more performance from your card. Not that you need it though.

But if your upgrading cause you want a bigger E-willy....I wouldnt do it.

Hehe, I would upgrade for a couple of reasons though:

1. Because I am already unable to play Oblivion for example with full IQ, might struggle with newer games. (CPU bottleneck?)

2. Because If I wait a few months then the 1950XTX will drop in value and so I would have to sell it for a lot less and I have limited money I can spend on top of that.

Ill keep your idea in mind though!

Thanks for the quick reply,
Joe

R600 could be launched Feb, March or even April by the look of things. So most of arent sure when its hitting the shelves.

Id say sell the X1950XTX, buy the 8800GTS (which is a little faster than the X1950XTX) and wait for the R600. That way you can sell your 8800GTS (which will have a higher resale value due to DX10/Vista and all) and from there on you can decide to buy either the 8800GTX/R600.

So while your waiting you can enjoy all the goodness of high IQ/performance gaming.
