Don't tell me it's a hoax; I already had my heart set on it.

I thought ATI said the X1650pro agp would come in at $99?

Hmmm.... That's true. I wonder why Diamond shows it at $199 then?

Yeah, there were some shens earlier this year when a typo on their site (sloppy copy 'n' paste) created a minor kerfuffle amongs enthusiasts hoping for a new AGP offering... forgot what card now but must have been some mid-range X1xxx variant. This time though it may not be them "to blame". If we just remind ourselves that DMM (Best Data) only make low-end reference cards while attempting to capitalize on the long past good rep of the Viper and Stealth brands, then we shan't be so easily duped ;)

If it is true you'd have to start considering that most CPUs that fit boards that have AGP slots are going to be bottlenecks, with the exception of socket 754 I suppose.

Dunno aboot the bottleneck as a peppy viddy card can enable cranking up some quality settings not dependent upon the CPU. Any unused potential beyond that is not necessarily wasted as long as the price is right and for a long time AGP price for the performance has been very wrong.

The previous phantom AGP card was X1800.

In any case, I'm not sure this is a hoax, given I've discovered another site that makes the same claim about Diamond and an X1950 AGP variant, available next month:

Right, so maybe you can tell me EXACTLY how the crossfire version of an AGP X1950 works then.

I'm under an NDA but I can say this much: it involves a coconut and a tinfoil gum wrapper. The rest should be obvious.

Now if AMD releases a S754 X2 I am effing set :D

Edit: I am not holding my breath, but honestly if this did come out with my current monetary situation, I would grab it and hold onto my NF3 + 3000+ system for another 12-18 months. Even if it ends up going for 400 bucks. That is much cheaper than building a new system.

According to this site, the card will be 450. I'm still tempted to get it, as this would still be much cheaper than an all out upgrade to E6400 + 2 gig ram + PCI-e.

EDIT: Maybe the link would be nice: http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1...015152,00.asp?kc=ETRSS02129TX1K0000532

EDIT 2: Google for this brings up quite a few press releases that support this info. Card doesn't seem to be a hoax, but the $200 price is almost assuredly wrong.

EDIT 2: Google for this brings up quite a few press releases that support this info. Card doesn't seem to be a hoax, but the $200 price is almost assuredly wrong.

The site says -

"At the high end, Diamond announced three new Viper cards based on the ATI X1950 chipset: the X1950 CrossFire and X1950XTX PCI-E models, plus the X1950PRO, an AGP card. The X1950 CrossFire and X1950 XTX each retail at $449.
Both the X1950 CrossFire and the X1950XTX use a core clock speed of 650 MHz and a 2.0GHz memory speed. The X1950AGP model, which has a 256-MB GDDR4 interface, core clock speed of 600MHz and a 1.4 GHz memory speed, is due in Oct. 2006 for an undisclosed price."

So I guess it will sell for an "undisclosed price." If it's true, I think everyone agrees that this will be one hot AGP card. The only AGP cards I can think of that could compete with it would be the expensive european Gainward cards that are 7900's disguised as 7800's. This card would essentially be about the same as an PCI-E X1900GT. Since you can get PCI-E X1900GT's for $200 with careful shopping, this card might end up at the same price point. Here's hoping it happens.

I still say it's fake and the other sites are pulling this AGP information from the neoseeker rewrite of the original Diamond press release. We'll see.

edit:

Feel free to gloat if I'm wrong, I know I'm going to if I'm right. ;)

Very interesting and chances are you should be able to overclock it to the 600+ speeds of the PCI-E cards.

I just filled out the "Contact Us" form on Diamond's site:

Comment :I have a question about upcoming products. I see on this site, they claim there will be an AGP version of the x1950pro. But I didn\'t see this info on your own press release. Can you verify if this card will exist? Here is the link I am referencing: http://neoseeker.com/news/story/6130/

Well, presumably $299 is MSRP and even if some stores actually sell at that, a competitive price could be expected closer to $250 before long. In any case, the value can only be judged once the benchmarks are out in another week or so.

If that's true, why not just grab a $259 7800GS now?

edit: Oops, didn't see Blurry's post directly above.

I'm getting one too. Time to upgrade my 9800NP.

I have a 6800GT right now, I dont think a 7800GS is worth the upgrade.
I think this X1950 Pro if the specs are right and it is released will blow the doors off the 7800GS.
