1950 XTX? or wait for dx10 cards?

I've almost saved 400 dollars for a video card. If I worked a little overtime I could afford the 1950 XTX, however, dx10 is coming soon too. I have a 6800GT AGP currently. Would it be smarter to wait for the next gen gfx cards? or just go head and get the XTX?

If you are anything like me I've been waiting forever holding off for whatever reasons. I say just go for it, Vista will be out in Jan, as will DX 10. Might be a while before some games come out worth playing. More than likely they will be expensive also. If you are like me and want to play Oblivion, FEAR, and other titles with good performance then upgrade. If you don't see anything out that catches your attention then hold off.

Is Dx10 lauching with vista? How much time will pass from dx10's release and the next gen video cards? will they release together?

get a 7600 GT for now. Sit on that till Vista.

Then go for a really good DX10 setup about 2 months after BOTH nvidia and ATI setups are mature enough that people have a lot of experience with them.

a 7600 GT will still let you play every single game in decent quality

I would say wait. I only upgrade videocards when I can't get them to run fast enough to keep me competitive in the games I like to play. Guys who upgrade simply for benchmarks or bragging rights are tools.

I have a 7600 GT and it's pretty decent I am planning on getting a 7900 though since I like to run my games at a higher res and really I could have afforded it in the first place, supposedly the difference is pretty substantial, anyways I would say spring for a 7800GTX or 7900GT but the 7600 is kinda mid level to me... YMMV

Well, I still play the old Operation Flashpoint (Its hard maxing that game out hehe). However I still play BF2, and Half Life 2, and Oblivion, and whatnot.

I hope my new x2 4200 will keep all the newest games happy for a long time coming. I hear all these things about x2 5000 this and whatnot. Hoping that 7600gt is a world away from 6800gt. but im gunna be buying a dx10 card when they come out.

mainly upgrading for armed assault

the x1950xtx isn't worth it. it's the regular x1900xtx with GDDR4. wait indefinently. prices will come down if you decide to get an x1950xtx and better avilability.

I'm not trying to be mean or anything but why would you upgrade to a x2 4200 right now? An Intel E6300 at stock speeds smokes it and is cheaper. I'm just asking.

haha, didn't you read what the OP said, he said he had a 6800GT, a 7600gt would be a friggen downgrade if anything. Look op, if you're going to do anything, you're going to wait for the second generation DX10 cards as the newer cards are going to be pumping out a LOT of heat, the manufacturers claim that the second gen or maybe even revision of cards will be working towards lowered power consumption.

You have a 6800GT card, a card that should be able to play anything at decent to high settings, I on the otherhand have a 9800PRO and even then I was perfectly happy with it for what I was playing (BF2 at 1280X1024, 2XAA). It'd be a waste of money to upgrade that already decent card of yours now, how much did you pay for it when you bought it and how much do you think you can sell it for?

At the moment 1950XTX much extra performance.

I would say get a 1900XT, sell your 6800GT, this would blow up about 200-250$.
6-9months down the line sell the 1900XT and get Dx10.

If you don't mind losing money on your 1950XTX then go for it. Normally you will lose money just from normal videocard depreciation. When DX10 cards hit the 1950XTX along with all these other DX9 cards will drop in value even faster. I would rather lose that money on the 6800GT rather than a $400+ video card.

What motherboard do you have? You may need a system upgrade if you don't have a pci-e slot.
