a bit pricey. it'll go down i'm sure.

the x1950pro is supposed to be a replacement for the x1900gt and compete with the 7900gs.

for that price, you might as well get a 7900GTO which can be had for around the $250 range and comes with 512 meg memory.
 
And too bad it's a dual slot card unlike the X1900 GT and 7900 GS.

What's up with ATI and their love for the dual slot cards?

In this case it's not ATI. This card is branded HIS. HIS typicly has dual slot coolers for ALL thier cards ... even the X1600's. They are also ussualy priced at a premium.
 
The HIS IceQ series use a modified Artic Silencer cooler. They usually cost a decent premium over the normal cards (more than buying an AC cooler and installing it yourself usually).
