I say they are not entitled to them, but then you are not entitled to be a member.

The moment you started caring what those frat-tards think about your GPA, you're in. They need more idiots like you.

j/k 😛

Bingo. A Frat is a private institution and although they have no legal right to see your transcript they also can deny you admittance to their organization if you choose not to provide one. Your choice.

Who the hell cares? You meet the minimum, and you can always explain the situation. Just give them the grades.

ok so you do not want the frat to know you screwed up teh first few years of school. but you have no trouble telling us you did?

but as KK said you do not have to show them.

well, I wouldn't post up my transcript on here or talk about my gpa..

Seriously how much do grades matter in a frat? Its not like they are the cream of the crop in terms of grades/thinking.

I just feel like since I haven't really bonded well with them during the rush (due to my busy schedule), I haven't held any leadership positions or was involved in any way on campus, my personality is a bit dull, therefore, I don't have much to bring to the table if I don't have the grades either.. I'm hurting.

I do know this though.. I am in the perfect major now and I'm making up for lost time... I feel confident where I'm headed.. but the past haunts me

but obviously they care since they want to see them and have arranged an interview process...

this fraternity is a bit different.. it's a social fraternity but they stress academic excellence a lot.

What's the point of joining this frat? It sounds like your schedule is already pretty booked up. Will this fit into your schedule?

Frats are social networking tools. Smart people join them to get contacts to further their careers. Dumb people join them because they think it will make them cool, or they have some inferority complex and need to feel accepted. If you MUST join a frat get into one that is geared towards academics first and drinking/sex with highschool girls second. If you are smart about it then the frat can be a very powerful tool. If you are a moron about it the enjoy paying for your drinking buddys.
With that said a social frat is more than likely the worst kind you could have joined. The chances of you making a powerful contact there are slim to none. You have decided that a social frat is good for you so I will drop that argument. Guess I got to ya too late 🙁 .
Now you said they value academics alot and you want to know if they have a right to ask for your transcript. Well anyone has that right. "let me see your transcript" There I just asked. Now you can say no to me and I couldnt care less. If you say no to them they may think you have something to hide (either that or you were some complete fuckup). So sure you can turn down their request but it may hinder your chances of being selected into their "brotherhood".

I'm trying to stay busy... I can fit the fraternity into my schedule
I feel like I can make powerful contact and at the same time be part of a eternal brotherhood. I want some lasting memories of college before I graduate because I don't have much. At least with the fraternity, I left some pieces and bits of me

I rushed and I'm one step behind the pledging process but they want to see my transcript

I'm not particularly happy with sharing my 3 years worth of grades with the brothers... I lacked some motivation and was in the wrong major

I meet the minimum gpa of 2.75 or whatever it is but I don't want to show my grades because I'm not really happy with them

Make friends the normal way FTW. You don't need them.

2.75 is not what I would call excellence...

Just give them the grades, why should you care? They need your transcript so they can verify that your GPA is what you tell them it is. You only have to fear handing over your transcript if you lied about your GPA.

Even the plumber has a right to request your transcript. However, you are under no obligation to grant his request.

If you really don't want them to see every single grade, you could probably get an official letter stating that your gpa meets or exceeds their requirement.

that's actually a really good idea except they want it by tomorrow (sunday)

Perhaps they need to make sure they're going to meet a minimum average GPA for the frat members in order to remain affiliated with the university? Universities do get to set rules for fraternities; they're not completely independent, even thought they may own their own house, etc. (Why? - I've never figured it out.) Alfred University (Alfred, NY) just abolished all social fraternities a few years ago. They were the University where hazing became infamous in the 70's after a student drank himself to death in the trunk of a car. A couple years ago, another kid died after a frat party. The community hated the fraternities. So, they were abolished.
