$193 for a 3 year warranty worth it?

Use an Amex (and some MC and Visa cards) and double the original warranty for free.

I thought Amex was 1 additional year, not double?

1 year + 1 year = 2 years?

Double FTW?

haha, well true in this case... except the phone support issue...

but i thought RKS was saying they always double the warranty....

The general policy is "double the warranty, up to a maximum of one year"

A warranty on any good laptop is totally worth it. I bought a MacBook back in May '06 with the warranty. It had so many problems that the repair bill was over $1,200, all of which was covered under warranty. A laptop isn't something you can just take apart and fix like a desktop. And I'm normally not the type of person who buys warranties.

Is a laptop really "good" if it requires $1,200 worth of repairs within six months after you purchase it?

Correct. If you want to get technical it's manufacturer's warranty + 1 year.

Since most manufacturer warranties are 1 year, one might assume it's double.

Actually, i think M4H had it right..."The general policy is 'double the warranty, up to a maximum of one year'" that's what my credit card says. and it only works for manufacturer warranties of <= 1 year (i.e. a 2yr warranty does not become 3 years...it stays at 2)

Kaido, i'm with crt150. i'm not sure what caused you to have repairs that equaled the value of your laptop within ~6 months, but it's definitely not normal.

YES!

Taking apart a Mac laptop vs. a regular laptop (HP, Dell, etc) is like brain surgery vs. cutting a grapefruit.

I took apart my first Mac laptop last year and it was a nightmare... sooo many screws... so few snapping plastic parts.

I purchased my new MacBook with the extended warranty.
