Hey guys. I’ve been a long-time lurker of these forums and have learned almost everything I know about computers from here. Long story short, it’s finally come time for me to build a new gaming computer. I’ve been eyeballing several different monitors, and I’d like to ask the board for some help.

I’m stuck between an Acer H233H or an ASUS VH242. I’ve read copious amounts of reviews on either monitor, and each has its pros and each has its cons. I’m leaning more towards the Acer H233H, though that’s simply due to the brand’s name. At one point I was also considering a Dell ST2410, though it was reviewed poorly on several occasions and my interest has since dwindled.

I’ve noted that both of these monitors fall under a 23-24” category as well as a $200-$250 price range. The price isn’t as much of an issue as is the quality of the monitor. I’m going to be gaming with this rig with mild everyday use coming in second, and plan to keep it for a number of years. I don’t see myself running any kind of dual or tri-monitor setup down the line, so a single monitor should fit the bill.

Main interests when considering a monitor:
23-24” (1920x1080)
Low response time (for gaming)
Under $300 if possible, though I’d much prefer to fork over the cash for a solid monitor that won’t flatline on me somewhere in the future. (If the extra cash is warranted, I’ll look into it)

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance, these forums have proven to be a superb resource over the years.

Eh, I'm no monitor expert, but in my experience and to my knowledge, ASUS has always been the better quality brand for everything. That's not saying Acer doesn't make great stuff too! I actually pieced together a rig for my friend using that very monitor. In all honesty, if it were me, I would just pick the cheaper option.

EDIT: Oh, and, grats to your first post :p. Time you got out of that closet, eh?

Haha thanks, Donut. With a little luck I hope to become a regular around these parts. The air is much fresher outside the closet, by the way. :)

So your vote swings either way huh... hmmm. I was thinking of going with whatever the cheaper option proved to be as well. I haven't played on a screen bigger than 15.4" inches in the past 4 years or so, so any sizable improvement will probably blow my mind.

Anyone else want to throw their two cents in?

I'm sorry but I don't know much about either of these monitors. I guess I'll just tell you conceptually that for the past 5 years I had been gaming on a 17'' CRT screen at 1024 x 768. Last fall on Black Friday I finally upgraded to a 22'' 1920 x 1080 Emachines and I was completely blown away. Completely new and awesome gaming experience. And that's with a Cheap-O EMachines, so I'm guessing your experience will be similar to mine.

I bought the LG W2353V 23" LCD last december. It has a 1920 x 1080 resolution, 1080p, HDMI and DVI ports.

It's one of the best LCD i've own so far, i'm very pleased with it.

I mostly game with this computer and watch movies, AutoCAD and basic stuff and it's been serving me amazingly.

I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a quality 23" LCD.
