So my friend says its the best root beer ever and apparently its only sold in the upper Midwest, me being from Florida I am not lucky.

Anyone know of a way to get it down here?

1919 is a root beer? I was a bar yesterday for lunch and looked over at the pulls for the tap beer. The one on the end was "1919". I'd never heard of it before. I thought it was some microbrew.

I guess I'll have to try it sometime and see if it's any good.

They're based out of New Ulm, MN (made with help from Schell's Brewery, for those who are familair with Schell).

As far as I know, they're only available on-tap and seasonally in a few area stores in pony kegs.

Interesting 1919 is also the year A&W rootbeer was founded by Roy Allen and Frank Wright in Lodi California, then it became the first franchise reasturant chain in 1921.

Some of my fondest memories from early childhood in the early 60's were when my dad would take me to an A&W drive-in and the car hop would bring out two frosty mugs of draft root beer :)

lots of rootbeers stated in 1919 as prohibition started in Jan of 1919 and they had to do SOMETHING with the brewhouses

There's a place called The Root Beer Stand in southern Ohio that makes a damn fine brew. It's not like any root beer I've had before. Has kind of a nutmeg/all-spice kick to it. VERY drinkable. I think I downed a gallon of that stuff while driving to South Carolina.

Natural homemade sarsaparilla fer me.

Lol, I knew this only from old movie westerns on TV where, as a joke, the guy would ask for sasparilla in a bar. And yeah, I know it as "sasparilla", which is how the old geezer extras in those oaters pronounced it.

I did know that it was similar to root beer, and an ingredient of classic rootbeer, but I've never actually quaffed a sasparilla/sarasparilla, pardner. ;)

I work about 30 seconds from there.

I still prefer A&W but not many places carry it anymore so 1919 is a nice runner up, especially in a frosted mug. :p

Best I've ever had was Hank's which is made in Philadelphia. 2nd-best is IBC (BTW, IBC was founded in... 1919).
