1905FP Purchase

The price finally dropped to a level I was comfortable with so I bit. I read reviews, such as the AT review, that made me feel as if the screen would be okay for gaming. However, after placing my order, I read some threads here that have me really worried. I don't play FPS's very often but I would by lying if I said I never do play them. Actually I'm playing the single player HL2 right now (great game btw).

Anyway, I'm wondering. Will I regret paying $350ish for this when I could just spend another $100 on the 2005FPW? I'm currently using a pretty good monitor that I run in the same resolution that is native to the 1905fp. I also run it at 70hz refresh rate. I just don't know enough about what 'ghosting' really means and just what 'bad' is to some people.

Feel free to give me advice. I have the money to spend on the 2005fpw but have never been one to just spend money if you know what I mean. I'm also a bit concerned about my desktop looking strange on a widescreen monitor. 😛

no. the dell monitors are great monitors.
you'll absolutely love the fpw though, but if you want to same some cash, the 1905 will suit you well.

Try it and see if you like it. Dell has like a 30 day return program anyway. You can send it back and get a 2001FP if you want a faster display that isn't widescreen.

Okay, sounds good. The only thing I'm worried about with returning the item is that I'm afraid the 40% off coupon will be expired. Do any of you know what the main difference is as far as a widescreen monitor is concerned on a computer? Does it go 4:3 in desktop mode and only widescreen in dvds and games that support widescreen?

No, your desktop will be in widescreen mode.

The only things that won't be widescreen are games that don't support the widescreen res.

Yah, that's what I've read on here too. I've also heard that other people are fine with it so I guess I'll just get it and test it. I just don't see why AT would review it and say it isn't that big of a deal if it is as bad as some people claim.

I have until Monday to decide since that is when it ships. But more than likely I'll just stick with it and return it if I can't stand it.

I have a 1905FP and play games from NFSU2 to HL2 and barely notice any ghosting, and I have tried hard to make it ghost. The only issue I have with it is, IMO, DVDs look like crap. So while I use the 1905FP mainly, I am keeping my Sony 21" CRT connected for DVDs and Photoshop as the colors on the Sony are more accurate than an LCD.

You have probably read some of my posts on the experience I had when Dell shipped me a 1905FP instead of a 2005FPW. Take my advice, cancel the 1905FP and get a 2005FPW. The 1905FP has a much higher response time than the 2005FPW. IMO, HL2 was not playable on the 1905FP (I hooked my CRT back up until I got my 2005FPW), but is quite enjoyable on the 2005FPW. Sure, you can return stuff to Dell, but who needs the aggrevation of dealing with Dell CS if you don't have to?

Edit: damn... I didn't realize how old this thread was... Wish I had caught you sooner. You must have already gotten your 1905FP by now. You should report back to tell us what you think. Might help someone else trying to make the sane decision in the future.

The 1905 is I believe a 25ms panel, and a mediocre one at that.

I definitely would have spent the extra cash on a 2005fpw, for the widescreen, far superior response time and extra screen size.
