1905fp - Noise on Dark DVDs & Images

I've noticed my Dell 1905fp doesn't handle greys very well on dark DVDs, dark images, or grey to black gradients. Pics and movies that looked good on my old LCD appear "noisy" on the Dell.

Has anyone else noticed anything similar? The image is great besides this (if you don't mind the slight ghosting).

I've noticed on the Windows XP screen during startup that the corners are lighter than the rest of the monitor. It's noticable with a screen saver that has a black background also.

I have the same LCD and while I love it, it sucks for DVD playback in DVI and in analog. Although it does look slightly better in analog.

I have the monitor hooked into a Mac mini via DVI and my PC via analog. The performance seems similar on both machines.

I thought the high contrast ratio would improve the quality of dark DVDs and images, but it seems to actually make them worse.

DVI should produce less interference. Try unplugging the analogue singal and see if noise is still there.

The noise I described doesn't seem to be RF interference or anything, more like the dithering you'd notice with a poor digital camera. The same images/DVDs have smooth blended colors on my other monitor.

It's well known that the 1905fp does not play video, particularly DVD, well at all. Which is why, even tho I have 2 1905fp lcds I keep my 20" Sony Trinitron monitor around for movies.
