I was looking to pick up two of these from dell for dual monitors. I've got one at work and love it. The only question is how well is it in games? I play CS and farcry type FPS games. Do these perform close to the 2001FP?

Just looking for some first hand reviews!

I played a lot of Half-life Deathmatch with my 1901FP. There was no ghosting. It displayed the game perfectly. Conterstrike of course, will work equally well
Also, I've played these games without any image problems: Need For Speed Undergorund, UT2k4, Serious Sam 2nd encounter.

the only weird thing i've noticed is that in Invision or other forums with a black background, if I scroll through the topics quickly, it looks different, but not in a bad way. its almost like ghosting but not quite.

so in conclusion, it's a badass gaming monitor

That's good to hear, as I'm getting one (along with my new system) tommorow. I guess it uses an LG panel? My Samsung SyncMaster 191t+ with the same theoretical 25ms response time DOES ghost in basically every game (although I'd still consider it useable).

If I remember to, I'll post some impressions on here later this week after I've gotten the monitor. I'm essentially paying $270-380 for it combined with a new system and a great coupon, so I figured it was worth the risk.

I always thought Samsung 191t and Dell 1901FP were basically the same LCDs.

I did too, but someone on here a few weeks ago insisted it's a different panel, and sounded like they knew what they were talking about.

I too had always heard they were the same panel (191T & 1901). Please let me know Jack how it goes. I can get a deal with Dell to get two panels for less than a 1K.

jamesey - thanks for the small review, sounds like a solid lcd.

anyone else?

Honestly I just need to bring CS to work and install it. :D

I use one at work also, its nice LCD but I find it not as bright as the new Samsun 12MS LCD's (which I absolutely want but can't afford). I haven't had a chance to game on it (other than solitaire), but it plays videos/DVD's without any ghosting.

I haven't seen the new 12MS samsungs yet. I don't really have a problem with the brightness of the 1901 though. My office has two large windows side by side (almost runs the whole wall) and I see the monitor just fine during the day. I imagine it would look pretty good at night.

I'd really like to have dual 2001FP, but I'd end up paying about $1600 vs $1000...quite a bit of difference.

it does ghost a little - more so than the same 25ms rated kds rad5 that i used before this monitor. nothing too bad though.

I just got my new system (with a 1901) in today, and I haven't had much time to play with it yet. I played maybe 10 minutes of Halo and Descent 3 (because I didn't have anything else handy, and Decent 3 blurs pretty badly in places on my Samsung). From what I can tell, the 1901 DOES have a faster response time than the Samsung 191. There's still a SLIGHT blurring, but it appears to be far less than the 191 (which is itself considered a good panel). From what I can tell, the response time isn't going to be an issue for me with this monitor.

Also, it seems to handle resolution switching better. 1024x768 looks almost indistinguishable to me in Halo as compared to the native 1280x1024 (aside from just the difference in resolution).
It's possible that difference is due to the video card somehow. This is hooked up to an x300se (basically a Radeon 9600), while the Samsung is hooked to a Geforce 4. From the settings, it looks like maybe the x300 is set by default to handle resolution scaling on its own, rather than letting the monitor do it, and maybe it's better at that than the Geforce 4.

So from a VERY short time with it, I'd say it's equal to the Samsung 191T+ for most stuff, but it's a better gaming monitor.

Unfortunately, I do seem to be having one problem with it. It has a built-in 4 port USB hub, but when I plug that into my new system, the system usually freezes a few seconds after booting. If I enter the BIOS, it'll just hang after a second or two, and if I let it load Windows, it'll usually hang saying it can't find ntldr. VERY scary. I thought my whole new system was screwy, but it really seems to just be the USB hub in the monitor.

I'm going to have to figure out what to do about that (if anything) tomorrow. I've never heard of a USB hub actually preventing a computer from booting. The extra weird thing is, if I plug it in AFTER the OS is loaded, it works fine, but reboot and it'll hang again until I unplug it and reboot. Took me a while to figure this out. I pulled out just about everything else from the system before I thought of unplugging the USB cable?

I have had the 1901 for almost a year now, absolutely love it

if you are coming from a crt to an lcd for the first time you will notice some ghosting in games but it is nothing that bothers you and you wont notice it after a while

I've had the monitor for a couple of weeks now, and overall I guess it's a little better than my Samsung (maybe...). Their is ghosting in some games, mainly depending on the colors involved. So far nothing's been horrible, it hasn't affected my ability to play games or anything. I think I would like an upgrade in a few years if there's an equivalent LCD with the same (or larger) size and the same resolution, with maybe a 4 times better refresh rate.
