1900XT256 vs 7900GTO

So heres the deal...

I just ordered all the parts for a new C2D system yesterday with the 1900xt256. My funds are limited and i didnt wanna spend more than 260 ish on a vidcard.

This morning I find out that the eVGA 7900GTO is out that can supposedly go to GTX speeds and is only $260.

Im not all to ecstatic about that fact that the 1900XT fan is loud as hell either... I suppose my priority would be performance tho. I can find ways around the noise

So bottom line, keep the 1900XT 256mb or get the 7900GTO 512mb

Help! 😵

even though the 1900xt that im buying has only 256mb of ram? ive scoured this forum as well as others for benches and some clips of how loud the 1900xt really is... gahh i hate these decisions.

Thanks for the prompt replies, any other members have suggestions? Id love to get more feedback ^^

What game and res/detail are you using that's gonna need >256MB video memory? You might if you require ultra-high settings, but the x1900xt is a clear winner on raw speed.

It shows the two cards are pretty equal at stock speeds, with certain games favoring each card.

I just got my X1900XT and while mine doesn't run too hot (hasn't gone over 73C yet), the stock cooler is way too loud and it draws entirely too much power. Also, I like the NVidia control panel much better (of course this is only prefernce and does not affect the performance).

If I could do it over again, I would have waited and gone with the 7900GTO. If it OC's to GTX speeds (seems like the odds are very high that it will), it's as fast or faster than the X1900XT while running cooler, quieter, and consuming much less power.

Ill second that, having owned an X1900XT that died and currently owning a 7900 GTO, which is great.
