I am gonna pick up a new monitor and I am wondering about 19 vs 20 inch. My understanding is that you want them to run in their native resolution. I would hate to have to turn down all my game settings on the 20inch vs the 19.

Running a 7950gt
e6400
and 1 gig of ddr2 800

Thoughts?

I say 19" if you don't plan on upgrading your memory and video anytime soon. Most newer games need 2gb to run smooth at higher detail/res. The video card is good but going 19"(1440x900) would last you a bit longer with games not released. With a 20"(1680 x 1050) it's gonna be hard to pull off in UT3/Crysis without 2gb and probably a better card. You might get away with it if everything is on low and medium settings.

Where with a 19" you might def get medium settings 1440x900.

Not sure how bad it would look at a different res other than native....But 1400/900 is pretty sweet imo. I have one the runs that native res. See sig

not too bad. depends on the scalar. the other thing you can do with a 20" widescreen is run 1:1 at 1280x1024

you're not going to have any problems with that computer, though.

19" LCDs have a pretty low resolution. you don't get much desktop area with one. 1440x900 is less area than my 14" notebook screen. i'm honestly not sure how people get work done with them. it's like going back to the old 1024x768 17" monitors.

Yeah I sorta regret getting my 19" widescreen but am gonna at least get some use out of before upgrading. While gaming though everything seems bigger then just browsing. I guess its because your focusing on fewer spots while gaming(FPS'ers anyway).

But anytime I tried to run a game out of native res they just didn't look good at all.

actually I got bad eyes and need to wear glasses(which I don't) but I do have. 1440x900 on a 19" widescreen is perfectly fine. I don't have a bit of trouble seeing text or anything and set around 3ft away from my monitor. Of course alot might sit more than that away from their monitor.

20" is just to small for 1680x1050 I think. A 22"(my next upgrade) would be perfect IMO for that res if you have bad eyes.

I've considered the 19" WS for my next monitor, but it is seriously just too damn small. Screen wise, it's shorter than a 17" 5:4, but slightly wider. Desktop area, roughly the same in terms of pixel, but rarely will you need more horizontal view with windows. The best thing about 1400x900 is that you can run it with a pretty med/low end computer very well. Other than that, it's too small. The 20" should be good, though I would be somewhat concerned about text size.

Maybe the fact that my 20 incher at 1680 X 1050 doesn't seem like a high enough resolution for me is because I have 16 year old eyes...

1440x900 on 19" yields much larger pixels than 1680x1050 on a 20". it's easier to see.

if you don't have an actual problem seeing the 20" pixels, you quickly get used to the smaller size.

1280x1024 is nice for 19" 5:4 screens, but too square.

I hate 20" WS because it's not large enough. Great for TV shows, but not as big for other things. If you jump to WS, just jump to the 2407 directly. No need to go through that 20" crap. It's a great first panel to own, but nothign that special.
