ive narrowed my choices for a new monitor down to these two 19"s. prices are similar and the NEC has the edge at refresh rates which is what is swaying my decision that way. the Samsung on the other hand is .20mm dot pitch whereas the NEC is 0.24mm. any insights, experiences, etc?

EDIT Viewsonic added by suggestion

My two existing Samsung monitors, my Samsung VCR, my Samsung TV and my Samsung microwave all dictate that I must give a certain answer but I must remain firm.

Dot pitch could be an argument but being able to run at a higher resolution flicker free is a much greater argument IMO. I will still suggest what i always suggest when buying a monitor: Go to a real store and look at the real monitors and make your decision on what your eyes tell you, not the specs.

Ditch both of em, the Viewsonic G95FB owns. If you want even HIGHER resolution get the P95. I got my G95 for $206 shipped with no tax from dell.com. The P95 was $229 at the time. Superclear technology rocks:).

thraxes, id love to see these monitors at a store.. but none of the major B&Ms carry these models. =[

Lyfer, im on a 17" Optiquest (Viewsonic) now. thing has held up like a champ for 3-4 years. however, on the P95, i cant seem to find the maximum refresh rates lower than 1280 res. i need these because it is impossible to be competitive in quake3 without 120hz. right now i play at 640. i was hoping with my new monitor to achieve this at 1024. one computer lab at school has the P95's monitors, so ill have to check them out. only problem is that the comps there run NetBSD and X which is really not the best way to test :)

I have the viewsonic p95f+. It is great for games, but the geometry is not the best. In games or with video 1600 x 1200 works great. Nice bright display with good colors. With text based apps I can not go over 1024 x 768. Not sure if my eyes cannot take the small size of everything, or if the text is fuzzy. I can use it, but the I find it uncomfortable after a while. I always use 85mhz resolution. I would buy something different if I was to do it again, but I am not unhappy with it either.

I have heard on here and other places that there is a focus issue w/ the p95f+ so it might not be your eyes. Whomever was saying 'G95f' did you mean the G90f? There is no Viewsonic G95f monitor, you see :D. Another good monitor for the money is the Dell M992. I have seen those where I attend college and they look really good. I also frequent SharkyExtreme's SharkForums and a lot of them prefer the NEC FP912SB out of personal experience with the monitors. They have suggested to me and other posters on numerous occaisons to look into the FP912SB because they said it is a fantastic monitor. A friend of mine likes his 957MB but he says you can really see the black edges---actually I think he meant that he can easily notice that it isn't a truly flat monitor, so that might bug you too who knows. I personally don't get bothered by that--hell, i'm using a 7 year old CrystalScan 700 from Gateway2000! Anything I buy would be better than this lol.
