I'm in the market for a new 19" to relace my 17" Viewsonic. I'm looking at the A90, PF790 (I think)and the MAG 19" flatscreen (can't recall model #). Does anyone here have one of these and do you like or dislike it? Any other suggestions? I'm trying to keep the cost to < $450.

The Samsungs are always highly recommended.
The 900NF is around that price, perhaps a little higher.
The 955DF is the best bargain around, great screen, great price.

I have the A95f 19 inch flat screen ViewSonic. It was $499.00, however it did come with a rebate of $40.00 I believe. I settled for this brand and model after taking 2 Micron-pc monitor's and a Sony Trinitron back. The picture sucked big time on all three of these. The ViewSonic is excellent.

I agree about the Samsung 900NF. Excellent monitor. Not sure about the price but I got mine for under $450 (before discounts, rebates) over 6 months ago so I would think it would still be under $450.

There's a $30 Samsung MIR rebate for February that includes the 900NF. Better order soon if you want to get in on it. It's possible that a March rebate could include 900NF but no garuntees (sp?).

I've got a Samtron P95+ myself and been really happy with it. Really good picture quality, only flaw being some horizontal lines being seen in dark room with very high contrast. It doesn't even show in normal circumstances, even in a dark room with normal contrast. The connections in Samtron are also good: there's a RGB connector as well as a SVideo one in addition to the VGA connector. Besides, I got mine (a new monitor from a reseller) at about $350 (here in Finland).

My choice would be either Samsung 900NF,or the LG 915FT Flatron which IMHO is better in someways due to having no visable aperture grill wires.

The Hitachi CM771 looks very nice as well... or an OEM counterpart using the same tube, the Cornerstone p1450. Both can be had for around $400.

A friend of mine just got the 900NF and he says the text isn't as sharp as on his ADI 17"

Now, I know that shadow mask's have better text quality and aperture grill's have better colors, but I'd think that a nice aperture grill model like the 900NF would have better text than a "cheapy" 17"

I bought a CTX pr960f (after tons of research) and it's still one of the best looking monitors I've ever owned.

I almost bought one of them because I've seen good reviews, but I've heard a couple "user reviews" that say it's geometry is off. I can get one pretty cheap and I like the Mag Trinitron FD at work. What's the geometry and text sharpness like?

I work alot at 1280x1024@85Hz for database development.

you win the prize nordic! ;) I wasn't kidding though, for an upper level monitor, the i90A is a better value than the 19" Sony trintrons. They're great too (I've had a 19" and currently have a 17", which I sold to my pops,). But I got the Iiyama (how EXACTLY do you pronuce that anyway?) for $479, no shipping, whereas I couldn't find a better deal for the SOny anywhere.

The Iiyama (it's e-yah-mah I believe) is kinda expensive compared to other 19" Diamondtron NF monitors like the Viewsonic, or Samsung.

I do like the Iiyama 450 I had though.

I agree, it is a bit expensive. I also agree that the smasung NF is a great monitor, and probably a better monitor than the Iiyama for the money. But straight up, there is no way the Samsung beats out a Sony or Iiyama. Though again, I sincerely doubt that many people would want to pay a premium price over the Samsng for a little better monitor. Though I can say that the Iiyama has a 6 year warranty, while I'm unaware what Samsung's is.

Do you think the Sony is better than the other companies that use their tube?

Would you recommend a Trinitron FD over the Iiyama (or other Diamondtron NF's)?

I'm looking for the best text with good colors. Text sharpness is most important though.

Well, the only 19" monitors I've had ar the Sony Trintron (Dell's p991) and this new Iiyama. Iw ould have to say I like the Iiyama more in every aspect, though it's not that I didn't dislike the Sony. To be honest, the difference is neglible whwen it comes to text. Though I can tell you taht when I saw the I90A for $79, free shipping, it made my decion alot easier. check it out: computermart

Iiyama and Smasung montiros have the SAME tube
both have the mitsi tube
these tubes are very similar to the FD Trititons that sony makes
differences are negible according to the person's eyes looking at it...its all about preference
and for the geometry errors
all flat AG screens have geometry...my NF screen is about .5mm of at the top right...the sony g400 (the one before i had the NF) was MUCH worser than the samsung monitor geometry wise. much more bowing from the top to bottom and even inwards from the outside (could not be corrected)
either sony or mitsu tubes are a no wrong way for quality but if money is an issue samsung is far the best deal compared to iiyama
who pays 100 bucks more for USB ports (quote me wrong on the price, i didint look it up)

So, for sharp text, you'd still recommend a Diamondtron or Trinitron?

I thought shadow masks were better at text?

Wouldn't a Samsung 900IFT have better text than a Samsung 900NF?

The 900IFT has a .20 horizontal dot pitch (.23 diag?)
