19" LCD - problem with choosing one

I'm looking for a 19" monitor that would be used in some (secondarily) office-like work and (primarily) cartography work - so a lot of map processing at different stages, using software like Microstation, GeoMap, CorelDRAW. No widescreen or fancy overbloated features needed.

Also there will be no gaming or video watching, so the speed is not an issue. I'm aiming at let's say $400 - $500 range.

Judging from the guide stickied on top, 971P looks like a good choice, although it's a bit expensive, and for some ridiculous reason, has no OSD besides software.

What about other manufactures, whose reviews are very difficult to find - like iiyama (19" series like E481S, H481S, X486S) or HP (LP1965 in particular).

Any suggestions greately appreciated.

I have had a 2-Dell 1905FP monitors and I really like them. Not the best for gaming, but the picture is amazingly crisp. I think they now have a 1907fp but am not sure the difference.

My experience is that Dell monitors seem to be good....

The 1907 is actually a step down from the 1905. The ViewSonic VP930b sounds right for the OP. I wouldn't bother with the 'unreviewed' LCDs...if you can't find much on them it's no good, unfortunately.

Thanks for answers. Unfotunately, Viewsonic 930b may be quite hard (and quite pricey too) to obtain where I live (Poland). 971P is almost $600. My choices are mainly: Samsung, NEC, LG, Hyundai, iiyama, HP, BenQ.

In your guide, I saw that on of the HP monitors turned out to be quite good. Do you have experience with the lesser 19" model I mentioned (LP1965) ?

If you want to do cartography work, you would be better with a higher on-screen resolution. With your budget you could consider stepping up to a 1600x1200 20-inch monitor

Not me personally. But the people needing them, work on two monitors. 2x 19" next to each other is what they need / are used for, although I mentioned widescreen. Generally they said - not wide enough, but we'll do some tests in the future.

For now though, two 19" LCDs are needed.
