19' LCD monitors and native resolution question

Hi:
I'm considering getting a 19' LCD monitor to replace my current 17' CRT, though have a concern. I'm very comfortable with the icon and text size of my current monitor (1024x768). I've read that most 19' LCD monitors have a native resolution that's much higher, and basically going any lower sacrifices image quality. Is that true? Should I be sticking to a 17' LCD if I require 1024x768 resolution? BTW I want this resolution just so I don't have to squint to see the text, which I find I often have to sitting a little back with higher resolutions.

Thanks,

You will be able to read text just fine with a 19" LCD monitor.

I had a 17" CRT myself, and I used 1024x768 resolution. When I adjusted the setting to 1280x1024, I could barely read the text. Here's some important things to note:

1. If you want to use 1024x768 as your resolution, you'd have to get a 15" LCD monitor, because that is the only size LCD monitor that has a native resolution of 1024x768.
2. A 15" LCD is equivalent to a 17" CRT.
3. I'm using a 17" LCD, and I can read text at the native resolution just fine. (Note: I had to adjust several of my settings. PM me if you want to know exactly which settings I switched.)
4. Most 19" LCD monitors have 1280x1024 as their native resolution. If 1280x1024 will work for a 17", it will be plenty for a 19" monitor.
5. Just so you know I shared your same exact concerns, and I highly recommend that you get a LCD monitor. It's so much clearer than my CRT. Go with the 19" if you can afford it.

Txt will be of no issue. On a 19" LCD teh pixel pitch is large enough that it is comparible to the pixel pitch of a hypothetical 16"LCD with 1024x768. You will enjoy the extra desktop space and same text size 😀

Edit: Welcome to teh forums both of ya!

Thanks guys for the informative responses! I've always wanted to upgrade to a 19' for the productivity issue, but looking at a friend's 19' CRT and its resolution, I thought the text size would always be that much smaller. It's good to know this isn't necessarily the case.

BTW my consideration now is the Benq FP937S 19'. Thanks again.
