I'm a gamer. I can't seem to find any info on a good 19" LCD for gaming .. I assume I want the highest refresh rates, but I can't always find that listed in specs... at least where I'm looking.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a 19" LCD to use with my ATI 9700 pro? Any input or resources would be greatly valuable to my cause.

Thanks,
Cuervo

well, if you're a gamer, I would stay away from the 19'' monitors. Monitors such as the Samsung 191t and the dell 1900fp have serious ghosting issues. I would either go with (a) the dell 1800fp (little to no ghosting) or (b) one of the 17'' 16ms lcds. these are guaranteed not to ghost.

I recently just picked up the planar 16ms 17'' lcd, and it's fantastic for gaming. Hitachi, NEC, and a handful of other companies also make similar lcds.

The Samsung 192T is pretty much exactly the same as the 191T. Still 25ms response time. cptCuervo, Id go look at some LCD setups and see if you notice a lot of ghosting (it is objective). Either get a 17" w/16ms response time, a 19" with 25ms (and ghosting, depending of course), or waiting for 19"s that have 16ms response time (or lower).

I`m using a Samsung 191T with my 9700NP and don`t notice any ghosting, however all 19" LCDs do have 25ms at best at the moment so if you want faster response times go with the 17" 16ms LCDs,having said that it does depend on the type of game you play(I play lots of RPG games,TFC,UT,Q3 etc) and using DVI helps as well.

I`ve both a 19" CRT and 19" LCD hooked up to my 9700NP so have the best of both worlds ,so can choose which one is best for the game in question especially when some games only support 800x600 or lower I have to make the choice centred mode on my LCD or expanded mode which is poorer on image quality or use MY 19" CRT.

Another vote for Dell 1800FP. I have it and there is no ghosting in UT2K3.

Using a Hitachi 17" 16ms TFT here. Great for games. BTY, how do you make it so lower resolution are not stretched across the screen? So that they are centered?

BoomAM,on my Samsung 191T I have the option in menu settings section(3 settings which are normal, expanded 1 & expanded 2).

Using normal mode for say 800x600 res will give a true 800x600 res in the centre, the other expanded modes will stretch it to full screen or almost full screen.

How does a dual monitor setup work with games? I would like to use my Samsung 900ift for games but use an LCD monitor (manufacturer and model TBD) for everything else (surfing, Photoshop, etc). Will the game also "spread" into the LCD monitor or will it stay within the monitor that I configure my 9500 Pro to use?

i've always wondered how the 1800fp w/30ms has little to no ghosting but the 1900fp w/25ms has ghosting issues? i've been torn between the 2.

What`ll happen is that whichever monitor you have set to primary, will display the game. And the secondary will either switch off or display the same, not 100% sure on the second bit though.

Ummmm.. No. The secondary should actually not display what is on the main screen unless you have it in clone mode. Which would be utterly pointless for normal use. Why have two monitors if they are going to display the same thing? The secondary will just stay as it normally is while the game will be played on the primary monitor. Some games can span across the two monitors and other games will allow you to put certain elements onto the secondary such as control displays for flight sims.

I will add another vote for the 1800FP. Great LCDs. I don't get why a 30ms panel out performs a good portion of 25ms panels either, but it does, and I really like that fact. :)

or just go with a CRT cause no matter how big you get it, you wont have the problems listed above... I love my 900IFT and i feel no need to change it any-time soon... I'd buy another CRT, the price is good and so is the picture!

Two things.
Try being a little less confrontational, cos its a easy way to inadvertadly start a flame war.
And i was going on what my system used to be set to. And as i said, i was 100% sure on what the secondary monitor would be.
