i know that this question has been asked many times before...

but let me give you the details of what i want and maybe it'll make my thread a little different...

i want 19 inch that's:

1. at least 18 inch viewable...

2. 1600 x 1200 resolution @ ~ or around 70-75 hz

3. .25 mm dpi or less

4. crt with flat screen

5. less than $250 shipped

6. monitor does not have to be brand new

ViewSonic's E90F+SB might work. About $214, 0.25 mm dp, 18" viewable, flat screen, but it does 1600x1200 at 68 Hz.

Check out the NEC FE991SB, they can be had for under $250 to $260 max. Its my choice for when I am going to buy a 19" CRT and I know a lot of people think very highly of it.

I got news for you man, if that's what you're looking for i'd definitely check http://www.pricewatch.com . also, you may wanna reconsider a monitor with low hertz, i recommend no less than 100 for gaming and i use 120. You could probably get a Samsung 19" 140 Hz 1600x1200 for $170-180 on pricewatch so go check it out.

Optimistic's link showed a Philips 109B45. This is a budget version of the monitor I use - a Philips 109P20. It's well worth hunting one down - they are an excellent monitor.

I have a Samsung SyncMaster 955DF (19in) and I like it. I bought it for around $200 a year ago and I think its a fine monitor.

I dont know how good all Sony monitors are but I personally would stay away from their trinitron (?) based monitors as they have those 2 horizontal lines that go all the way across the screen (the lines appear 1/3 from the top and bottom..kinda like the screen is split into 3 equal spaces). I dont know if every Sony monitor has that, but I find them pretty annoying and very noticeable if you are in front of the screen for a long period of time..trust me..you WILL notice them. I know someone who does CG at work and those lines drives him nuts 😀 Anyone else notice those lines?

Those lines are present on any Aperture Grille style monitor. They are absent on Shadow Mask monitors.

You quickly get used to them, and Trinitron tubes seem to have more prominent lines than Mitsubishi Diamondtron tubes do.

That is probably the worst AG monitor.
By the way, there are plenty of monitors below $250 shipped, check dell.com and read reviews of the web.

I picked the NEC FP912SB over the FE991SB. It's a nicer monitor with higher resolutions/refresh rates and a smaller dot pitch than the FE991SB, although a little more expensive. I looked it up on pricegrabber.com and it can be had for $290 (s/h included).

thanks for all the help all of a sudden 🙂

knew i had to keep bumping for a few days before y'all would pull through for me!

think i'm going to have to go with the phillips 109b43
