i've heard that winchester's stock AMD hs and fan are fine for OC'ing. but i was going to buy a combo at monarch and saw that i could save $19 by going with the OEM CPU and this hs fan. I'm on a budget, but would i have any problems oc'ing with this. anyone else go with this option?

is there a big advantage to having the warranty, has anyone ever had to use one past the regular oem warranty?

i've thought about that, but i have a side fan that blows fresh air right into the CPU fan. it keeps my current intel processor rediculously cool. I may upgrade to a zalman at some point, but i've seen many that state that the winchester already runs plenty cool, even oc'd. plus with the extra fan i'm pretty sure it will be ok.

i really wonder how the HS i linked stacks up to AMD stock.

lots of other threads on this already. Bottom line is the stock fan that is included with the Winchester cores is fine for overclocking. Many people are using it and OCing at up to 2.6Ghz, some are even reaching 2.7++ using the stock fan.

i'm up to 2.55GHz on stock cooling, i think i could go further, but my mobo's voltage settings are screwed up - any vcore between 1.45 - 1.55 sets vcore at 1.45, so i can't OC any more without severe overvolting. I'd definitely either grab the stock cooling or get something good like the Zalman 7700 or 7000. I have the Zalman VF700 VGA cooler, and northbridge cooler, and they are both great, so i'm sure the CPU coolers are just as good. if you shop around for your CPU, you should be able to find a winchester retail box for just a few bucks more than OEM - mine was actually $1 cheaper than the cheapest OEM, lol.

That heatsink you linked to says it's aluminum, so go with the retail cpu and the retail heatsink it would be better than the cheap aluminum one.
