I?m planning to upgrade my monitor. I?m thinking about 19? CRT or 17? LCD. Can someone tell me, in term of gaming experience, which one is better? I mean in term of brightness, response time, color, contrast, etc.
Thx in advance.

I really like my 19" CRT for gaming, but I don't mind the graphics or looks that much. I use it just to frag people and win stuff at LANs. :)

It gets the job done, the only reason I would EVER, EVER get an LCD is for portability. The reason I don't have one now is because prices are twice as much as a CRT of the same quality!

I'm deciding between 19 and 17 too, but I'm ultimately interested in price.

It's not like the bigger a screen is the worse specs it has right? You just pay more.

What made you so happy with the LCD?

I also have dual LCDs. I like them because they do not take over my entire desk. I could not hope to put two CRTs in the same space. And, two CRTs would require steel reinforcments under my desk to hold the weight of those two monsters.

Some for gaming would still prefer the purity of color (black really) that the CRT provides over that of the LCD, assuming ghosting is not an issue any longer.

That really depends on the models your comparing

Generally: 19" CRT > 17" LCD

If the LCD has a refresh of 16ms or better it would be acceptable.

desk space. with a CRT, i could only fit that on my tiny $40 ikea desk. with LCD, i could fit two and have alot desk space to write on.

plus LCD is easier on the eyes for me. however once i get a bigger desk, i'll probably triple screen (2 LCD + 1 CRT) because i do miss the clarity while watching dark scenes in DVDs

Bigger is more important to me than desk space, since I have a lot of it. I'd go with the 19" crt myself.
(although I'm using a 20" lcd here, 2001fp which is awsome)

do you plan on using the same monitor for 20 years or longer? it shouldn't matter.

the only thing that matters is that you may get dead pixels in an LCD.

Thx for all the response. I don?t mind with the larger size of CRT monitor. While for price, LCD is more expensive but not toomuch. The thing I confused is the different terminology used for CRT and LCD. For example I?m looking at Samsung 19? 997 DF (USD 200) and Acer 17? AL1715w (USD 234).
In detail of CRT, they got: max/optimal resolution and freq./bandwidth; however on LCD side they got brightness, contrast ratio, response time and DVI thing which is not comparable for me. Can someone briefly explain these to me?
One of my friend said that LCD is more eye friendly due to lower radiation and softer color.
