19" BenQ vs 20" Dell LCD monitor?

I've been eyeing the Dell 2001FP for quite a while, but the wife still thinks $650 is too much for a monitor. I've been looking at the BenQ models, namely the FP931 and FP937 and they are around the $400-$450 mark. They have 16ms and 12ms response times, so gaming should be ok. Besides the fact that I'd get another inch of screen with the 20" Dell, what else would be the difference of the $200?

I've also found the Sony 19" XBRITE monitor at CompUSA on Black Friday for $499, but it's in silver, and I don't know if I want to do that. But I guess that's another option.

One plus size for the 19" monitor is that I could run games a little easier in the native 1280x1040 resolution with my video card, rather than playing everything in 1600x1200 on the Dell.

Thanks!
Aaron

In my humble opinion and a warning to you, DELL SUCKS@!!!! if you're planning to buy a monitor every year, go with the dell, other wise use the 19' UNLESS you want to wait a lil more until day after thanksgiving, get yourself a 21.3' Samsung 🙂

I haven't heard about issues with the Dells. I'll have to check into that.

Is there a black Friday deal on the 21" Samsung?

the 19" BenQ has 1280x1024 res only. IMHO that resolution looks terrible on such a large screen - exception being if your eyesight is not very good.

Notice that he said "IMHO". Frankly, that resolution is the same as 1028x764 on a 17" or 800x600 on a 15".

It all looks fine. And..... if he was 15 years older his opinion would be totally different. Which is why it doesnt count for sh**. *MORE* that half the population cannot read 1600x1200 on 20" screen without glasses. And thats a fact.

I agree. My el cheapo work LCD (HP 1702) is a 17" one with the same resolution. ugh. Still, the next step up always seems to be 1600x1200 (instead of 1400x1050), and I'd prefer a 20" screen for 16x12.

As for tiny text, it is pretty easy to change the font size or the DPI in Windows if the text seems too small.

BenQ are pretty good screens anyway, although there is nothing wrong with Dell (I own a Dell, disclaimer 😉).

the Dell 2001 doesnt suck, its just not for gaming.
the panel is rated 16ms, but actually responses about same as 25ms panel. it has pretty low contrast, good view angle, 1600x1200 res, usb hub, and pivots, good for watching movies, not for fast games

Benq is pretty bad... the 937 can pass as a decent budget gaming monitor, most Benq monitors have bad color settings, they look washed out and u have to tweak ur video card driver to get it rite. plus they r 6bit dithering panels, 931 doesnt come with dvi cable, and they r both dont pivot.

Sony HS94 uses same panel as benq937, 12ms, 6bit dithering, but I'd imagine them to be a lot better color wise. HS93 is BAD, 25ms, no DVI, plus screen is reflective. They also dont pivot, no usb hub, and have a huge boarder around the panel (not bad if u like the style)
