19 and I think I'm going to start using Rogaine

I think that my hair is starting to thin out directly behind the middle of my forehead, I didn't think that people went bald like that but I dunno. Anyway I THINK it is starting to thin out as I can see my skull quite predominantly, but I don't know if its where my hair sort of parts. Really I don't know, but anyway I would hate to go bald there or anywhere so what do you think about me starting to use rogaine?

Is there any health side effects ? Is it expensive? Am I a moron?

Expensive, I think. Not covered by health care plans. Your not a moron for wanting to keep your hair but it might be a futile fight :/

You can see your skull?? Man that sounds like more than hair loss.... now if you can see your scalp, rogaine might help.

I guess we're in the same club, I'm 31 and I thought I would'nt have to worry about this stuff until I was in my 60's. Bitch-slapped yet again by mother nature.

LOL, that was pretty funny man 😉

Try changing your diet first, read up on herbs and nutrition that help support hair growth. Use mild shampoos like Neutrogena, don't use gel/spray/mousse in your hair. Don't wear hats. Don't blowdry your hair. Keep it cut shorter if your hair is usually longer, so there is less strain on the follicles.

I thought these forums had established that the 'hat myth' was, infact, just a myth?

Aside from that you are very right, thanks.

I shave my hair at least every two weeks. I wish I were bald so I wouldn't have to bother. I don't think I look sexy this way I just can't stand hair. Kinda funny because I used to have long hair in my hippy days.

They are myths. Rogaine is over the counter now, you can even get no names and save a good amount of money. But it takes 2-3 months before you see if it is working.

If it does then stick to it. If not there are some new drugs out there, but you need a presp. to get those.

talk to someone who would have been able to see a pattern of hair loss (eg, barber). if they agree, do it now. if not, give it a few more months unless you're absolutely sure right now. don't listen to anyone telling you to wait, that's what i did and now i'm just trying to reclaim whatever hair i have left :-(

Wait a couple of years, man... geesh.

For what? more hair to fall out.

Dont wait! start ASAP catch it in the early stage.

Am I wrong in thinking that genetic hair loss is related directly to your mother's side of the family ? My grandfather had a full head of hair until his dying day, but my father is somewhat baldish in the back of his scalp, cousins on his side are bald.

I've seen a few mid-twenty aged guys lose more than half their hair. But Rogaine won't help you there, since if they began to lose it at such early age it was likely because of genetic defects.

A kid I graduated with was going bald somewhere around our Sophomore year of High School.

I don't see why not to try Rogaine. All you have to lose is more hair 😉

rogaine only works on hair loss that originates at the crown of your head. i know, i'm using it, and i'm only 23. i'm not sure if thats the part of your head that you're talking about. it does nothing for a receding hairline. i'm about to say fvck it and just shave my head, but the fiancee isnt too keen on it, she wants me to fight this thing to the death.

my gf's 24 and she just started using it. have you seen a derm. for this? maybe it's because you're not taking enough of vitamines or something, heard iron was pretty important for hair growth.

Nope, not expensive. Costco has generic (by law, it's exactly the same active ingredient as Rogaine) for $5/month (two two-packs, four months worth, for about twenty bucks.) My husband has been using it for awhile. For him, it slowed the progression of the loss, but didn't grow too much hair. Still, better than nothing, I guess. YMMV

I've used Propecia for one full year now..

I and my Doctor both agree that it has halted my receding hairline.

Whether anything grows back is another question yet to be answered.

But I'm just glad the loss has stopped or at least been greatly slowed down.
