McLeodUSA Turbo ADSL business/residential promo

One of the telco's in my area is offering a pretty awesome deal for high-speed DSL service right now. $19.95 per month for 1.5Mb/384K ADSL. ISP services and up to 10 e-mail accounts are part of the basic service.

If you sign a 12-month service agreement, they waive the $69 initial setup charge and throw in a free Netopia ADSL router.

Only catch? McleodUSA is only available in 25 states. They don't do DSL in CA, NV or most of the East Coast. The good news? I live less than a mile from one of their DSLAMs and they're half the price of my Cox cable modem service!

same boat i'm in. Stuck on Sprints phone service, so I cant get anything but sprint dsl, even though dslreports says some other dsl service supports my CO, that is faster and cheaper than what I pay for from now from sprint 🙁

Sorry, kamranziadar, but I believe MD is out of their "footprint." I know they offer service in sections of Ohio, problem is individual mileage will vary...

Edit:

I've just checked online and it's said "Products and Services available for (408)" which is San Jose, Calif.

But first you have to order their phone service. Most basic is $19. This kills it.

All DSL service is delivered over a local phone line. If McLeodUSA can't access your line, they can't deliver the service.

They were the same price as Cox for local service (and way less than Qwest), so I just switched my local voice line to McLeodUSA, too. I was able to keep my same phone number as well.

I'm surprised you thought that was a deal-killer, skarloey.

Only for the few of us that don't have landlines. I only have a cellphone so moving from Cable service to DSL where I'd have to pay for a landline isn't so appealing.

No doubt, znaps, if you don't want a land line for phone service then DSL is a wee bit impractical.

More cities on-net for McLeodUSA DSL:

Dayton, OH
Columbus, OH
Santa Fe, NM
Souix Falls, SD
Souix City, IA
Madison, WI

Thanks for the updates and keep the cities rolling in!

Why would you switch from Cable to ADSL?

Why would you switch from Cable to ADSL?

To have a dedicated line. And so you wouldn't run the risk of your cable internet provider biatching at you for running servers and whatnot (and possibly take action on your account).

mscdex0, you can have a dedicated line with your dialup or xDSL or via Cable...you just need to decide what level you want to play with (i.e.pay for).
But speed is on the side of cable - at least, today it is.
