Heh. I remember, in 1993, when Tchaikovsky would have celebrated his hundredth birthday, they did a gala-concerto in St. Petersburg Philharmonic Hall. The grand finale was overture of 1812 with real guns placed on the top story balconies outside the building. They did fire them in sync with the music. I could watch it on TV and hear it out the window. That was awesome.
