1800xt or 1900gt

Both are the same price now on newegg. I've pretty much ruled out going nvidia since ATI is the best bang for my buck at that price range. I've read up, and am still conflicted on which way to go. The x1800xt seems to be faster at all the current games due to it's high memory speeds, but the 1900gt has 36 pixel shaders, and might play newer games faster.

Not sure which path to go down. Anyone compared these cards in real life, and have any experiences. Opinions welcome in helping me make a decision.

The $200.00 x1800xt's are 256 MB versions. I did find a 1900xt with 512 MB for $289.00 on newegg. I've decided to keep 3700+ Clawhammer Socket 754. It runs at 2.4 Ghz, and has 1MB of L2 cache.

All I need is a new mobo/psu/vid card.

I would say, if you have the funds available, get the 1900XT. You would really reap the benefits. Does anyone know if the 1800XT 256 is as fast or faster or slower than the 1900GT ?

512 mb doesn't make as big a difference in performance as pixel pipes or clock speeds.
I'd say the x1900 xt is a steal right now.
But its still a bit pricier than the xt.
If u are choosing between x1800 xt and x1900 gt.I would suggest u get the x1900 gt if u are playing games like Age of Empires 3,Battlefield 2 and Oblivion.
Otherwise x1800 xt.

I actually got that deal just need to send the mail in rebate in now 🙂

Edit:
The main reason I picked the X1900XT over the X1800XT was because the X1900XT did better at higher resolutions if you check out the review on the X1900XT you should see where it compares the X1800XT and X1900XT precentages at certain resolutions and at 1600x1200 the X1900XT had some nice increase in precentage. If your not going to be running higher than 1280x1024 the X1800XT should be fine. Since I own a 2005FPW with a native resolution of 1680x1050 I went with the X1900XT.

At that resolution, either card would be great. I am happy with my x1900gt, runs nice and cool with an x2 cooler. The x1800xt is likely a better card, but not sure how often you would notice any difference.

ya, at that res a X1800XT should be more than enough also you could go with a 7900GT if you wanted to put the cost down I am not sure what they sell ATM but I am sure it's lower than the X1800XT.

If you have $200 no more to spend get the x1800xt. The x1900gt has less pixel pipelines and slower clocks, but at your res, you'll still be able to crank the settings. Still, x1800xt IMO.

Excellent site, thanks a lot! It looks like these two cards are about the same with the 1800xt leading in more titles. I am assuming the Image Quality is about the same on both cards. I think I may go ahead and get the x1800xt.

X1900GT only needs a single slot, it's quieter, it has more pixel shaders, and is a good overclocker. However, it tends to run very warm with the stock cooler and don't count on unlocking one. X1800XT is also a good card, runs cooler, and overclocks/can be flashed to a "PE". The XT 512 will whip the GT in many current games, but I wouldn't count on the XT 256 doing the same. It may still have the advantage in some current games but there is a significant difference in the performance of between the 256 and the 512 in some games with high res and high IQ. CaiNaM may know of some of the benchies that prove this. I believe that the tweaktown review may be using a 512. Overall, I like my GT.
