1800+XP runs at 1.15GHz?

Well I hope this doesn't turn out to be a stupid question cuz I'm sure it's me missing something here.

Anyhow I just got my new rig with 1800+XP/ABit KR7A-133. But when I boot up with "Load Optimization Default", the screen shows CPU clock 1150MHz. I remembered 1800+XP runs at 1.53GHz, or was that just the core clock?

11.5 x 133 is 1533 which is the normal 1800 XP speed, your mb is giving the cpu 11.5 x 100 for 1150.

You should have a setting in bios or via jumper or dip switch on the mb to select 133 fsb. It must be set or defaulted to 100 right now.

check your manual

Abit KR7-series BIOSes do a very poor job of cpu-recognition. Many have posted this complaint.

Simple solution:
Set 'CPU Operating Speed' to 'User Define'.
Set 'Multiplier Factor' to correct multiplier for your cpu (I think it's 11.5 for XP1800+).
Set 'CPU FSB Clock' to 133.

That'll give you stock operating speed for your XP1800+.

Hope this helps!

It's not really an Abit issue. I haven't seen a Socket A mobo yet that automatically sets the fsb to 133 rather than 100.

Indeed

Thanks guys, I have solved the problem by setting them manually, exactly as you said.
But the weird thing is, I have noticed that when I chose the CPU operation speed to "1800(133)", everything else WAS set to the correct value, including FSB=133, etc. But it still booted up at 1.15GHz. However after I chose "User Defined", and manually set everything to exactly the same as they would be in the "1800(133)" "profile", it worked out fine.
Beats me! 😕
