I have been out of the loop for a while and can't make up my mind on a new system. It must be AMD. Can be a dually or a single processor system. I prefer to shop at newegg, but any reputable dealers will be acceptable. Can you help me out guys?

edit: the price is without monitor.

Go all out on a dual XP raid system with a gig of ram.

if you go with a Single AMD CPU I'd check into Abit's KT333 or Epox's KT333 offering. They are the fastest DDr AMD Motherboards thus far. But Nvidia did demo a DDR400 Motherboard, but hasn't announced anything official.

WOW, that's P4 money! :D

Dual MP's w/ prolly Tyan mobo if your an apps man . If you're a gamer go w/latest Athlon XP 2100+ on any KT333 mobo. Either way go with a gig of RAM at least.

Case: Lian-Li PC-61+USB (Black) = $155
Power: Enlight ATX 340W = $38
CPU: AMD ATHLON XP 2100+ = $241
Mobo: MSI KT3 ULTRA-ARU KT333 = $128
RAM: 2x KINGSTON 512MB PC2700 DDR RAM = $338 (2 x 169)
Video: Asus V8460 Geforce 4 Ti 4600 = $386
HD: WESTERN DIGITAL "SPECIAL EDITION" 100GB 7200RPM = $183
Sound: Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum = $166
CD-RW: PLEXTOR 24x10x40 CD-RW BLACK = $132
DVD: Lite-On 16x DVD Black = $55
Floppy: Panasonic Black = $12
Keyboard: BLACK ORtek = $12
Mouse: Pine Group Optical Scroll mouse = $8

Total = $1854
+ shipping ($48)

Total w/ shipping = $1902 (newegg.com)

If you absolutly cant go above $1800, there is PLENTY of stuff to trim from this system to get it there... if you already have a CD-RW/DVD/Floppy/Mouse/Keyboard... theres a big chunk of money right there. Other things you can cut are the SB Platinum, and the 100gb 8mb buffer HD. I would leave the 2100+, 1gb PC2700, and GF4 tho... cause those are really gonna be the basis of your computer.

Anyway, good luck!

Now I'm getting Jealous.
I agree with those parts, except my preference would be for an Epox or Abit motherboard, and I like the MS Optical mice.
There's no monitor or speakers included in this list. Do you need those too?

If you need to make some room in that budget for sofware, monitor, speakers, here are some suggestions for saving money:
Save $80-$100 by getting an Antec case w/350W psu instead of the Lian-Li (Although those are sweet)
Save $100 by getting an Athlon XP 1900+ (I don't think the performance diff is worth $100)
Save $20 by getting the Epox 8K3A+ (if you don't need raid)

Didn't mean to post yet. Oops

Continued from last post:
Save $170 by sticking to 512MB RAM (prices are still high and IMO 512MB is plenty unless your running a server)
Save $140 by getting a GeForce 4 Ti4400 instead of the 4600
Save $80 by getting a 60GB HD
Save $60-$80 on soundcard (you should get a sweet card for under $100)

I just noticed you said you don't need a monitor so Cygni's list is just about right for your budget.
These are just suggestions if you want to shave a few dollars of the price. Anyway, your going to have a sweet system. Have Fun

What applications are going to be using? You may not need a dual cpu system.

What is your timing? The Tbred should be available in a month or so.
