$180.00 worth of tech books (win2k + mcse stuff) for $9.99 + 50% off other books

They could be almost free and it not be worth it. The free books from Cisco on the other hand......

Yes, I'm a Network Engineer snob.

They have a lot more than just exam cram books. Go to cbd.booksonline.com/cbd and check out the various packages they have available (including an a la carte option). I joined last year and have no regrets. They do send the stupid "if you want the main selection, do nothing, it will be shipped automatically" cards every month, BUT, you can respond to the selection of the month online instead of wasting a stamp. One other caveat: it takes about 2 months to get your initial order. They take forever to process the order and on top of that they ship 'em 4th class book rate. All in all though I found it was a good value. The books were current editions, many hardcovers. You only have to buy one more book to fulfill your obligation, and they don't charge a fortune for it like the way some of the music clubs charge $20 for a CD. You can see the members' prices on the website before you order.

No affiliation with them other than a satisfied customer.

This six-volume, 1 CD-ROM library ? a $179.97 value ? is yours for $9.99 when you join this club. Join today and receive Certification Success Exam Cram ? a $19.99 value ? absolutely FREE with membership!

Does this mean that all six books come on one CD-ROM or does it mean 6 books + 1 CD-ROM? I might jump on it if it is 6 paper BOOKS and a CD. Nut such a great deal if it's 6 books on CD.

😀

If you read the description of that set, you'll see it's comes with paper books, not books on CDROM.

Just be sure to check the mail each month for newly deliveries and be sure to say not to send the book or else you will continue to get them one after another. Pay it safe and buy another book right away and cancel with them. By the time I got to it, I had about 4 sets of unopen books that I needed to return, what a pain.

Just to let you all know, I've already jumped on this deal three months ago.

My first books, which were the Exam Cram Win2K MCSE Set, came in about a month.
After shipping the price added up to about $26 bucks. Damn good deal considering this set (a wrapped box set of four core exam books plus three more books in the box) go for well over $200 bucks at your Barns and Nobles.

The other books to fulfill your commitment are varied in price. I ordered one more book and will be canceling my membership.

This is a great deal though.

Someone asked me how much shipping was, so I thought I'd share what I know here. I chose the a la carte option ($1.99 each for 3 books plus one free) instead of one of the prefab book packages. I paid $5.97 + $12.99 s/h for my order. The books came in 2-3 different shipments and they did not charge extra for split shipment. As I mentioned previously, they ship 4th class book rate and on top of that it takes them 2-3 weeks to process your order, so don't count on seeing your books for 5-6 weeks.

I called cust service once (317)541-8920 ... warning, plan to spend 20 minutes on hold. When you get thru they might ask which book club you want; tell the computer books direct.

Anyway, I asked them what s/h was and they said $6.45 for the first book, $3.95 for the second book, $3.95 for the third book, and $1.85 for the fourth book. fifth book and on are free s/h. That comes out to a maximum total of $16.20. That's per order; if they split the shipment you don't pay extra.

So why I paid $12.99 instead of $16.20 I don't know. Maybe the s/h was reduced as part of the intro package.

Whenever I'd get the "send this card back or we'll send you a book" cards I'd just go to their website and respond "no thanks" and save a stamp. One time I did get a book I didn't want, and I just marked "refused" on it and sent it back (as they instruct you to do). They pay the return postage when you do that too.

All in all I thought it was a great value. The books were current edition, popular titles, not old out-of-print obscure junk. My only gripe was it took so long to get my initial order.

I signed up for a bundle like this thru booksonline.com a year ago. I got the Exam Cram NT4 Track books. 6 books in all with a CD for $9.99 when you join (normally $119.99 or something). Helped me out immensely in gaining my MCSE. The prices on the other books are usually pretty good, but I wait for a "sale", when they have books rediculously cheap. Just make sure that you reply to the snail-mail they send every month to keep from getting the "featured" books every month. I'm still enrolled in this program, and am just gonna sit in it until i dont need any more books! Definately jump in on this deal if you need some of the featured books! All you hav to do is buy one more book within a year. I'm sure you can find something that would be interesting...

Do you feel the exam cram books are good studying material? what was the other person above talking about its not a real tutorial book... dont quite understand the distinction...

I took advantage of this deal and it's not a fake. I think they're running the deal in different markets geared towards different types. I got the Windows 2000 Resource Kit stuff. This is NOT the actual Microsoft Win2K Resource Kit (200.00 + in the store), but the books I got are definetly worth 9.95. I've had them now for a month and haven't received any other offers yet. I just hope they don't send me a single off within the year for something that costs $1,000.00. It could happen.

Oh, the books are from Cybex.

Joining them is like joining a cult. It's very difficult to get out. I told them to cancel my membership twice and I keep getting their mail.

I think they're doing it the same way BMG and Columbia does there 12 CD's for price of 1. They use this as a hook and basically bank on people not sending their mail back and paying for a few books they never purchased. If you're on the ball with things, this is a d@mned fine deal. Good looking out!

Sounds like a great deal, so I went for it. Ordered the Win2k Bible, XML Bible, Oracle Press PL/SQL (expensive), and a Photoshop book. If the shipping is as cheap as kydar mentioned, I'll be thrilled, even if it does take a month to get my books. 🙂

Signed up 3+ weeks ago and nothing so far. My card hasn't been charged either...hopefully they wait to charge it until they ship.

I signed up and it only took 2 to 2 1/2 weeks to get my books.
Good deal.

Also with shipping it was $20.96 for my books, What a bargain
