JAIPUR, India -- This has got to be a bummer: An 18-year-old from India who has lived life up until now as a girl has just been told by doctors that she is really a boy. The teen, named Poonam, went into a Jaipur hospital complaining of abdominal pain, and tests revealed it was an emerging penis. Doctors operated to free the sex organ and now the teen is living life as a man, reports United News of India.

Ambiguous-gender births aren't as uncommon as you would probably think.

It could be that this person's penis was just discovered now... or it could be that the parents were faced with a decision at birth, and chose to raise their child as a girl.

i would assume that he had a hole shaped similarly to a vagina up until now. I doubt many people in India compare where their urine originates from

i would say so. Because the penis was so far into the vagina, I dont think there was ever any questioning, ya know? It looked as if she was peeing normally, however, it was the urethra in the penis that the urine was flowing through.
