179$/Month for Cable/Phone/TV... this average?

My Father's starting to think about cancelling Road Runner. He knows I'm a gamer and doesn't want to compromise my speed be downgrading to DSL. We have Road Runner's:

Cable Television (With HBO): 49.00 + 10.00 = ~60 + A few small things = $75
High Speed Cable Internet: 44.99
Digital Phone: 39.99
Total (With Misc. Things): 179.99


Also on the bill:
Digital Converter Box: 8.00 per month
all inclusive bill.. and my dad said 2 weeks ago they raised the bill to 154, then this week its 179.

Is there any fine print anyone knows of.... that says that this bill will increase? I know certain companys promote digital phone/cable etc.. for a low STARTING COST.. but I'm talking about being a customer for YEARS. My dad is not one to call screaming "WTF!", he's a very calm person and I don't see him complaining (to an extent).. Edit: I tried stating this in my last point, he will not call and: "threaten to cancel, they will lower the bill. " He will however, at least question why the bill is so high.

I want to keep this speed for my cable.. but I don't want my dad to cancel it due to it being almost 180 a month... He doesn't know what Skype or VOIP even is.. So I wouldn't start with that.

What can I do? Or what can I tell my dad to do? Anything? '
 
i pay $60 for Dish satellite TV and $58.95 for wireless internet and $150 for two cell plans/3 cell phones

<shrugs>

maybe you can pay part of the bill
 
i'd say tell him to call road runner and ask why his bill is so high. Then to tell them he can't afford that much and if there is a more fiscal plan they can put him on or else he would have to leave for a cheaper competitor.
 
I have all the basic channels you can get, with HBO and a couple of other minor packages, 3 DVR boxes (2 HD) and the basic internet package, and my bill is in the $140 range (I use Time Warner).
 
No offense here, but if your dad is complaining about the bill but at the same time won't call them up and ask, what's up with that? If I'm the one paying and my bill is suddenly higher, I'm not just going to sit back and be passive, I'm going to be calling them asking what's going on and why it's so high. PS, I have RR also with Standard cable, all inclusive phone and road runner internet for $132/month.
 
No phone (just cell, which is $15/mo+tax), no cable, just internet - $44.95. Cancel the cable, there isn't sh!t on TV anyway.
 
Sounds about right. I'm paying $90 to Comcast just for cable right now, and another $60 for phone and internet from at&t.

Cable here $250 per month ($100 TV/$150 for Internet) Only one carrier and this is lowest cost they offer

AT&T $60 - Only carrier here and this is lowest cost they offer

$310 per month for real cabled connections to the world.

I tried that with both the Cable carrier and AT&T and they said take it or leave it.
 
$45 for fiber optic internet
$45 for HDTV digital package
$25 for phone

I get $30 off because I subscribe to three services from the company. Not a bad deal at all.

$18/mo for 4mb internets (old employee discount they haven't removed

Hmm... ~$69 for dsl. ~$65 for cellphone (family plan - 2 phones).

We got basic cable ~$40?

I think we might be paying too much. 🙁
 
Cable's 44.99 after 6 years of being with them crystal... 🙂 and its much faster


To Aga: I don't want to slow my speed down anymore than I have now. DSL is totally out of the question. I had DSL once, and we will never go back
 
I just saw a story on the news the other night regarding cable and competition. The story referenced an organization called TV4US. I was checking out their website. Has anyone heard of this org before? I'm definitely all for opening up the cable market for competition, but I wanted to be sure that there aren't alterer motives for this group. I saw that AT&T was a member, which would be someone that would benefit from opening the market. Anyone have any experience or knowledge of this group?
