"Iam shopping for a new Flat Screen Monitor from Dell, few things that i have to meet that i want your expert opinions on. This is ONLY for gaming, maybe a small bit of word processing, but either or, plz tell me which to go with. Also my allowed budget from my wife is right around $300.00 give or take about 10 bucks. My new system is almost as high as possible in the contrast of duel processor, 1.5 gig of ram, 160 gig hard drive, etc. This will be my fun toy and as time goes on, gonna slowly buy stuff to REALLY upgrade it, thanx XX.

Any help is appriciated, ty"

This is a direct copy heh

here is my reply

"Flatscreen is generally in reference to a CRT [ "normal" ] monitor when the... hmm glass? i guess is flat... and doesnt have a bubble like a standard TV...

Flatpanel is generally... LCD monitors :p

According to those specs which you posted... I would say the first one is "better' according to specs for gaming because of the lower response time... [ that being 16ms ]...

Now... the other monitor has DVI, higher contrast and a brighter screen... heh... soo... hmm... yarr... I would say that 250-300cd/m2 is pretty normal... and 1000:1 contrast is higher than normal... I would have to look up some review in order to get a better idea...

Good stats:
19": 19in screen, 16ms response time
17": DVI Connection, 1000:1 contrast, 280cd/m2 brightness

yarrr... just look up.. info...

also... 25ms is still reasonable... you dont wanna go above 30ms... or you will probably see streaking w/ higher movement"

Lemme know what you guys/gals think and which you would go with :p [and why]

I myself would go w/ the 19". 25ms response does get noticable ghosting in FPS games that annoys me to no end. The 19" also supports 75 response at max res, where the 17" only goes 60. That makes a big difference. The 500:1 contrast is still dam good for an LCD so that's no prob. Thats my 2 cents anywhoo.
