1700+ still the best bang for buck?

Wanna upgrade Duron 900 on a k7s5A mobo for my wife...she is only into lite (im talking scrabble, solitaire etc) gaming + internet, and MS Office applications. Nothing heavy duty. Is the 1700+ still the best option out there? Don't wanna do a heavy upgrade for her...just some PC2100 memory and CPU. All else is cool right now. Thanks!

Well i doubt she will be doing any heavy gaming so yes, but if you want to save your self from a future upgrade, go with a 2500+ for about $80...

Go for the 1700... You obviously arent going to do any overclocking or gaming. Save the money and get yourself a 1700.

i would just for a 2400+ or 2500+ for future proffing a little bit

watch out. some mobos only support athlon xp's up to 2100+

I just ordered a Barton 2500+.... basically the Barton is just like an XP CPU meant to run at 333 mhz but has 512 cache... I don't have a diffinitive answer regarding it on your mobo tho. The increased cache size allows it to have a higher PR rating for the clock speed: 1.8 ghz... most can O/C it to 2200 tho.

no 2600 is a 266/333 fsb if it was 333 it would be upto a 3200 so you have a 266 fsb. a barton is a 333 fsb so your cpu would be underclocked.
