My question is thus: do 19" monitors have any other advantage over 17" monitors other than size?

They tend to be faster, but do have a bigger dot pitch resulting in pictures that aren't quite as high DPI. Also it's my understanding the 90GX2 does 16.7M colors but the 70GX2 only does 16.2M. Both use dithering though.

Edit: looks like they just list everything as "more than 16 million colors" now so I'm not sure how much merit that carries.

What is dithering? I was at my local bestbuy today and I couldn't really notice a quality difference in a movie they were playing on the two monitors. Would I notice a difference in games?

All 17" and 19" screens dither so you really don't have a choice. I wouldn't say it's that obvious but if you know what to look for you'd notice it. It's hard to describe and the methods vary per LCD (some are actually dithering, some are frame rate control).
