17" or 19" CRT monitor?

I would appreciate some advice. I've got $200 - $300 to spend on a new monitor. While it would be nice if it was closer to $200, its not a big deal if it is closer to $300. Would it be better for me to get a 19" monitor in this price range or a real good 17" in this range. I use a 19" at work so that is what I'm used to looking at. I'll be using it to do internet/word processing but also for some 3d games. This is part of a build and it will be hooked up to one of the GeForce 3 cards. The card is going to depend on how much I spend on the monitor and some of the other parts. I'd appreciate any advice yall could give.

I'd go with a 19''. Its hard to go back to 17'' after using 19'' if either looking at the desktop or in games. You can run games at much higher resolutions and its easy to shoot little things way off in the distance (I love sniping with my mp40 in RTCW 😉 ).

You can get a dell P991 (which is just a rebagged Sony G400 which is a very nice monitor) for $280 at dell.com plus free shipping. This is a very very nice 19inch monitor. It is much better than paying $400 for a Sony G400 where the only difference between the two is that one is in a Sony case and the other is in a dell case.

Just so you know, I just checked and the price on the P991 monitor was $349. Plus, I live in Texas so I would have to pay taxes and shipping. I appreciate the help though. Keep the advice coming. I can use all I can get.

Just my opinion, but for the price of a decent 19" monitor you can sometimes pick up two 17" monitors. At work I'm using dual 17" Viewsonics while at home I have to settle for a pair of cheaper 17" generics (KDS actually.) Sure the quality isn't quite as nice, but I could care less given the workspace it gives me. I used to have a VERY nice 21" Viewsonic monitor at work, but after watching all my co-workers with their dual 17's I decided I'd much rather have that. It's great if you do any sort of web site work where you need immediate cause-effect comparisons.
