17" LCD with DVI and an 8-bit panel

Im looking for a new monitor right now, and my budget is roughly 350. I'm debating whether or not to try to find a 17" lcd with dvi and an 8-bit panel, for go for the new Hyndai 19" thats got a fast response time, but 6-bit panel.

I do a bit of graphics stuff right now, watch movies a lot, and play games. I'm not sure if the difference in color with the 8-bit/6-bit would be big or not.

Are there any 17" that fit the bill? Preferably with a good response time

Are there any screen shots that compare photos of stuff in 18 bit color w/ dithering vs 24 bit color?

I looked around more, and it seems the most recommended lcd i found was the viewsonic VP171B-2. here

I was wondering if this an 8-bit or 6-bit panel.

I have a BenQ FP937, which is a TN 6-bit panel with theoretical 12ms response time.

It's a very good monitor IMO. The colors don't look any different to me, but it's very hard to make a comparison as CRTs display colors differently. LCDs are SO much sharper for desktop work it's not even funny. Although, for dark games and movies an LCD will always be slightly less than great because of the backlight. Most of the negative effects can be eliminated with chaning of the settings, but not all. Also the thing that really sucks about LCDs is the fact that only a very small percentage I would say <5% have zero dead pixels and no noticeable backlight leakage.

If you're not a professional, don't worry about 6bit vs 8bit for color representation. It will be very hard to notice if you even can.

No it will be easy to notice as you can see in AT's monitor review.

Go for the Samsung 710T

Actually not, as you can see Anandtech even openly admitted that it's review was faulty and that 6bit panels really aren't as bad as they made them out to be. Quoting the review:

"The low response time of the BenQ P931 played less of a role in our comparisons than we had anticipated, and sacrificing an 8-bit LCD panel for a 6-bit one probably hurt the monitor more than it should have in our comparative report card. "
