I am running a 17" Viewsonic VP730B from a 7800GT (forceware 81.95) via DVI. According to the Viewsonic user guide, the recommended setting is 1280x1024@60Hz.

I selected that res and rate on the Nvidia control panel and while windows Display properties shows that it is running at 60Hz, the OSD information on the LCD monitor says that it is running at 75Hz.

Which one should I believe? More importantly, will it adversely affect the monitor. Should I download powerstrip and force the refresh rate to 60Hz.

Pardon the noobiness of any question. This is my first LCD...I have been on CRTs until now.

No, it will not damage your display.

The VP730b is spec'd at: Frequency Fh: 24~82kHz, Fv: 50~85Hz

Fv is what you want to look at. 85 Hz shouldn't damage it either, but 75 definitely won't. I've been running 75 Hz (max spec) on my Samsung 710T LCD for more than a year now without a single problem. So I can only assume you can max yours out at 85 Hz without any problems either. But I'd say at the least use 75 Hz. I can't stand the sluggish mouse movement of 60 Hz.

Oh, and believe your monitor's OSD over anything else.

Yes, drivers for the LCD were already installed. However, PerfectSuite was not -it keeps freezing the system at startup, so I had to do a system restore.
